movie & chapter menu only problem: Yellow Submarine

I'm gradually coming up to speed with this great tool. Movie only copies go Ok, so I'm trying to get fancy now. I've read all the guides on the subject I could find, and none quite get at this task. I'm no doubt a bit confused, and could use some help.

Yellow Sub has all files in one set: VTS_01_[1-7].vob. I've located the two menu items I want in MLU 1:
15 - uses VOB-ID's 9 (mandatory) and
8 - uses VOB-ID's 29 (lead-in to 15; would be nice).
In the original ripped IFO, I can edit the pointers so that the movie starts with either 8 or 15, as I wish.

I know how to produce new Movie Only files. Including the menu material as well has me stumped. I can't just copy all vob's in that one set, as in some guides, because it includes lots of extras that make for too big a movie. How do I build on the "movie only" methods and still get IFOedit to keep the menu material above? Also, should I check "create blank menus" and then try to rebuild them somehow?

Any tips would be slavishly appreciated. Thanks.

I finally got IFOedit to strip leaving just the movie and the menu structure: unchecked "create new IFOs (movie only), checked "autocopy menu files to destination," and kept in the one additional VobID that has all the menu stuff in it. It works fine, but the movie is still just a bit too big for a DVD -- 4,718,684 bytes, to be exact -- with the end credits trimmed. VTS_01_0, with all the menu stuff, is 183 mb. Only about 5 mb is the key chapter menus. I stripped out all the unnecessary stuff (demuxed w vobedit), created dummy replacement files, and rejoined the file. When I put it back into the movie folder, though, the movie doesn't work -- even after Get VTS Sectors. Before, it played the opening 13sec MGM logo (haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of that) and then went right to the chapter menus. Now, it plays the logo and then stops, DOA.

Any thoughts on how to make it go again, or on what happened that isn't working, please? Thanks.

How about doing this...

After your ripped all your files to your DVD, use IFOedit and go to your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT. Edit the following by double left clicking on line and entering new value.

NEW > Menu_1: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask......0

OLD > Menu_8: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask......0
NEW > Menu_8: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask......131

OLD > Menu_15: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask.....0
NEW > Menu_15: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask.....135


By doing this, your Chapter Selection menu intro will play and then your selections menu. Menu_8 will display as [Root Menu] and PGC-Menu_15 as [Chapter (PTT) Menu}in your Language Menu Unit in VTS Overview. If you don't want your intro and go straight to your Selections, then you can do this.

Since you don't want your main menu popping up, there's still your "Main Menu" button on all your Chapter Selection Menus to disable. I would do two ways.

1. Use MenuEdit to get rid of your "Main Menu" button in your Chapter Selection Menus. Of course, we are talking about 18 pages to work on.

2. Edit your first pre command in your PGC-Menu_7 as follows. Right click on line and select Edit Command. Select (JumpSS_VTSM) Jump to Titleset Menu and enter

Title Nr. 1 / TitleSet Nr. 1 / Menu: chapter.

Doing this, when you press your Main Menu button on any of your pages, you jump to your assigned chapter PGC-Menu's last page. Sorry, I don't know how to set it so you still stay on the same page for this movie. At least, your still in the chapter menus.

Save your VTS_01_0.IFO and test

I hope it works. I was backing up NTSC R1 version.
