I have a DVD that I capped and authored myself. I want to take that dvd now an re-rip to me HD and re-encode. I want to convert the audio to Dobly-digital. But I want to keep the menus intack. Is there any way to do this. Its a simple movie with 1 main menu and 3 sub menus with just chapter points. So basically i just want to rip the movie and convert down to mpeg file and then re-encode to dobly and then just reburn. Any suggestions?

Hello obiwan,

I´m not an expert but I guess you can do this:

Analyse the structure of your DVD. Rip all you vob files except vobs with your movie. If you have more than one PGC in your titleset it will be little bit more complicated. If you have only one PCG in your Titleset then you can rip your movie with DVDDecryptor using stream processing. This way you´ll get *.m2v file and your audio file. Then you can extract subtitles with SubRip if you have some. Next step is convert your audio file to whatever you want ;) .

Now is time for authoring - I don´t know what authoring software you use so it is up to you. When you have buil your new project, you have to rename your newly authored vobs to your original vobs. E.g. if your original movie was in titleset 2 (VTS_02_xx.VOB) you have to rename your newly authored vobs to VTS_02_xx.VOB. Then copy your newly authored vobs to the rest of your ripped files on your HD.

Finaly use Ifoupdate to update your *.ifo files, get vts sector, try it in your sw player and if everything is fine burn it to DVDR or maybe better to DVDRW.

As I have red this post it looks more complicated than it is. But this is some kind of "extract" from old Scenarist backup guide. If this looks comlpicated than you probably have to take a look at this guide on Doom´s homepage.

Hope it will help :) :)

Oh no I forgot on chapters. If you have one, you have to import them during your authoring process... I have probably worked too much today :( :(

Consider it a backup of a commercial dvd u own. Just demux the audio/video, fix the audio to whatever u want and reauthor/ifoupdate/ifoedit and burn.

If u still have the project of the dvd and the assets for the menu u can just replace the audio in the authoring program.
