TMPEG encoding MPEG1's is still the best and the fastest :) (compairing to a 3pass CCE encode) This is only for doing encoded's under a 2500M bitrate. If you are doing DVD9 to DVD5 MPEG2 encoding then the new procoder is the best and the fastest, then CCE.

Please read the sticky on how to make a good post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=19566). This does not follow the rules as you are asking an opinon question. Consider this a warning, please do not post these kinds of questions again.

However, I would have to disagree with holomatrix. CCE gives the best results by far, and is much faster than TMPGEnc. I cannot speak for procoder, but I would be very surprised if it could top CCE. I use CCE for everything and have always been very pleased with the results.

We'll I don't want to mislead anyone and I don't know how your encoding with TMPEG 2.5.10 but if you take for example the movie FEARDOTCOM (101min NTSC) and encode to 1CD CVD you'll see that TMPEG MPEG1 encodes it in 2hr 45min and 3pass CCE MPEG2 encodes it in 4hr 40min. (TMPEG would use a CQ of 80 and CCE would need to use a Max. Av. bitrate of 980) on a P4 1.8. And we'll the quality, TMPEG is way better for MPEG1 anyway, that's why I mentioned the bitrate range in my first post. A 2CD MPEG2 encode they would look pretty close. That's why I would do a 3/4 DVD (528X480) encode with TMPEG and your looking at almost DVD quality....But your right this is not the spot to discuss which encoder is better.

for gods sake every other post i have made here has been against some rule or other :(

all im looking for is a bit of help and advise that i havent been able to find looking thru the forums and using the search

if there are othere threads already discussing topics point me to them

its a real shame as i really think dvd2svcd is the application i am wanting to use for encoding but unless i can feel free to ask questions without being slapped down constantly im not going to want to come back

BTW, if you see somebody making a post who has obviously not read the Q&A or FAQs don't be mean spirited

look at my post count, im new, im learning

oh and thankyou holomatrix :D

your welcome. if you go up one level to the VCD & SVCD section in this forum you will notice three other headings (VCD/SVCD encoding & authoring, TMPG and CCE) that you could browse/search and direct this question to, rather than the DVD2SVCD section.
Good luck

Well, I think the generel concesus is the following:

If your source is DV Avi use Canopus Procoder
Else If your source is something else (DVD, AVI or DVB) and your bitrate is below 1800 use TMPGEnc otherwise use CCE.

I personally uses CCE for 95% all my encodes, and I think the CCE is better than TMPGEnc down to a bitrate of 1600. But that's just me. Only when I make SVCD's single CD cartoons for the kids I use TMPGEnc. I never use Procoder because I don't have a DV Camera yet, or access to DV footage.

By the way, could you tell me, will dvd2svcd support avisynth 2.5 or not in the near future ?

markrb

DVD2SVCD has said in the past that 2.5 will not be supported until it has proven to be stable and will work with all the plug-ins that DVD2SVCD needs.

You can read his statement in the Advanced forum in the Avisynth 2.5 thread.

homerjay, now don't go get your wings all flapping :) Rulez is rulez. Subjective opinion threads can be a pain in the arse cause they always go on and on..and on. Heck, you were lucky you got some of the most very experienced people in the forum, including the boss, to give you their opinions, and guess what, lol, sorry but this really tickles me, not a darn one gave you the same answer. And mine would be slightly different too. Now add the opinions from everybody who wants to get their post count up and you got the thread from hell going on. Don't worry, we will probably see you fry somebody here in a few months for doing the same. Keep smiling, its all funny. You just gotta hold your mouth right.

homerjay problem is, is that in the strictist sense this thread is against rule 12 and would be in any forum on Doom9.

I think it's fine where it is and in fact I think you got your answer.
Since you are fairly new you would not know that DDogg is the king of this place. Doom9 owns it, but DDogg is all that. So always trust his words. He rarely comes around anymore and is sorely missed when he is gone, but when he returns smiles show up on the thousands of people that miss him.

Like DDogg said look at this very thread and each person has their own opinion. In the end it only matters to you what you think. Your best friend is the RW disc.
I did well over 200 tests before I decided on my final method of making SVCD's. Of course now all of those tests are useless to me since I do DVD-R now ;).

The rules of the forum are not there to hurt or insult. They have been set up over the entire course of the forum to help it run smoothly. We have seen a dramitic increase in complaints, because we have seen a dramitic increase in the amount of people that try to take the easy way out and not go by the rules. We can go too far sometimes in enforcing these rules, but honestly it tends to be out of frustration at the sheer numbers of broken rules. If you wish to compare have a look at some of the other less tightly run forums and see if you can actually find answers to your problems.

Didn't mean to preach. Started typing and my fingers just kept going. Sorry.

As soon as it's released it will be a sticky. If you want to keep a closer eye on it then keep hitting the DVD2SVCD homepage.

I am guessing it's close since it doesn't say "not yet released" in that readme.txt file.

I guess dvd2svcd will release new build once 3 remain enhancements are fixed. In my opinion i guess the new version should arrive by the end of the next month.

Of course its only my opinion :)

I only put in entries in the readme.txt when I've finished them. So what you see in the readme.txt is already made. And please stop guessing when I release a new version. I release it when I feel it's stable. With the massive amount of settings there is in dvd2svcd today, testing the program is a huge task.

@ homerjay, I wouldn't worry anymore about getting a straight answer :) I would be just honored to have all the "Big Wiggs" respond to one of my threads. hehe :) (sorry, just shocked)
