quite simply...

i do my one pass to get the vaf file
then i do a multipass (4 passes)

let's say now i delete my mpv file and only keep my vaf/vif files and source...

few days later i do another multipass (3 passes) using the info, even though my mpv is gone...

do i now have a 8 pass mpv? (first pass + 4 passes + 3 more passes)

this question is basically to understand how CCE works with the VAF file...i have gathered that the vaf file stores all the information you've gained from previous passes- so even though i delete my mpv file, i can still use that vaf file again and add onto the passes, without starting over.

Testing this with 2.67.00.08 additional passes with the .m2v gone add up. In other words, a 1 pass + 1 pass + 1 pass with the .m2v deleted in between is the same as a 3 pass.

Correct. The VBR distribution changes are stored and updated in the VAF file, so that's the one you need to keep.

i'm glad someone asked this question cause i was wondering the same thing :)

so if you have a crashing problem like someone else posted in here, you could just do it one at a time and get the same multipass result!
