View Full Version : delete PGCs with ifoedit

Hi,
I'm having troubles backing up movies where the VS_X set containing the movie contains more than 1 PGC (PGC1 movie and PGC2 to PGCn containing logos and warnings that show up upon insertion of the DVD on the player, prior to reaching the root menu, and also after you press the play button and before the movie starts).
So does anybody know of a way to delete these PGCs? Not disabling them but deleting them... I want to reencode the movie and in the end it must have only PGC1.

What's up Fmazzanti!
Man, you come with some all these stuff to do that nobody does. Anyway, here's my 2 cents.
Though I don't have time to test this, how about editing your VTS_*_0.IFO / VTS_PGCITI / Number of VTS_PGCI_SRP value. I believe this value holds how many number of PGCs your Title Set has. Don't know what the outcome is if you changed it to one. Have a go at it and let me know. :)

Hi 2COOL, I'm glad you still have good sense of humor with me... I was afraid you could be pissed off of me asking too many things :p
In any case I guess what happens is that I'm getting somewhat frustrated about my tests playing here and refusing to play there. That's pretty much because I'm learning by exemples and that's somewhat though. Of course I couldn't get along without valuable help as yours...

I'll give this a try. However I may also try another approach I've been thinking about recently (and correct me please if you see I am completely wrong). The original DVD has in VTS_01 the movie in PGC1 and logos and warnings in PGCs 2 to 7. I can strip these out with IFOEdit. Then I'll have a modified backup of the whole DVD containing only 1 PGC in VTS_01. I can then feed this to DVD2DVDr, which will also create IFOs with 1 PGC only. I can then replace the original VOBs and IFOs with those created by DVD2DVDr, and do the IfoUpdate trick in Adjust cell mode as you said...
BTW one thing I do not understand (and maybe you can clarify this) is the exact difference between the Menu Extras button and the VOB extras button in ifoedit. I know the former lets you strip out unwanted menus, but it can also be used to strip out VOB Ids, and VOB Extras can also do that, isn't it? SO is there any rule to follow about which want to choose when stripping out unwanted VOb Id?

Once again I failed
Now I contantly run into 'Navigation errors' as said by 'DVD Play' i IfoEdit. I tried what you said and Navigation erros.
I also tried to start from the very beginning. My DVD has the following structure:
* VIDEO_TS.VOB which contains de title menu and some other stuff I can't see (preview shows as blank streams).
* VTS_01_0.VOB which has all audio, subtitles and scene selection menues, together with still images that correspond to things displayed by the extras.
* VTS_01_x.VOB which has the main menues and extras (the later in the end).
Now what I did is succesfully strip out unwanted menues with IfoEdit. That renedered a playable project (at least). I used the 'menu extras' button to kill these. I then put the resulting fils in a seond directory and copied all other files to that one.
Now I ran IfoEdit on VTS_01_0.IFO. there you can see the following structure:
PGC1 V/C Id: 1/1 to 1/12 with 12 cells and one chapter for each cell. this is the movie.
PGC2 V/C Id: 2/1 logo
PGC2 V/C Id: 3/1 screen with the name of the movie
PGC2 V/C Id: 4/1 copyright
PGC2 V/C Id: 5/1 blank
PGC2 V/C Id: 6/1 logo
PGC2 V/C Id: 7/1 blank
and I decided to keep only PGC1 sice I don't need any of the other ones. I just pressed the 'VOB extras' button and checked everything that has to be checked according to the IfoEdit guides. At the VOB_Id selection screen I checked VOB_ID 1 and unchecked all the others. I put the resulting files in a new directory... played that in IfoEdit (after saving) and got navigation errors at the very beginning (when there was supposed to display one logo in the original DVD). I tried then Get VTS sectors and all that but still the same...
What am I doing wrong? I start to get tired of banging my head against the wall...
Then I ran IfoEdit on VTS_01_0.IFO which has PGC1 corresponding to the movie and PGC2 to PGC7 containing copyrights and logos and other things I don't like. The movie is VOB_ID 1 with cells 1 to 12, while the extras in PGC2 to PGC7 are V/C Id: 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, 6/1 and 7/1. If I understand that correctly

Hi 2COOL, I'm glad you still have good sense of humor with me... I was afraid you could be pissed off of me asking too many things:p
Don't worry my friend, I like to dabble into the unknown. Either volunterily or not. We may both have the same "curious" personality that drives us to learn more on how the DVD and the valuable information that IFOedit gives up, works. Especially, when there is no exact document of anyone trying to do what we want to do. So, it's up to people like us to try to figure out a working method/fix so that many, who also have inquiring minds, will learn and understand more things go about the internal structure than just backing up DVDs. When you receive good things, it's good to give back. I am glad that forums like Doom9 exist for people like us to seek answers and to provide them also if we know it. It's all about helping each other. Just like how Josh and Chibi Jasmin are being helpful on testing and figuring out DVD-splitting with IFOedit. You're a good respectable friend and also a courteous one.:)
Now back to your matter on hand.
When you use Menu Extras, you are working with the VIDEO_TS.VOB or VTS_*_0.VOB. The VOBs IDs in your Menu Lanugage Unit, of course, pertains to these VOBs. So if you want to strip out anything with your menu, you do it in Menu Extras. In your VOB EXtras, you are working with your VTS_*_1 to *.VOBs. They do have their own VOB-IDs.
SO is there any rule to follow about which want to choose when stripping out unwanted VOb Id?I hope the above explanation has cleared the smoke for you.

I'm curious to know when, in your preview, does your PGC2 clips plays? Does your logo come before the movie or after? Also, are you achieving on getting your movie to go straight to menu it ends if there are miscellaneous at the end? If you, how about trying to insert a (CallSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet root-Menu [Resume Cell:1] into your post command in your movie's PGC1.

Hi again pal,
first of all thanks for the nice words. You are pretty kind to me and.. yes. I do believe also we have similar personalities. For me this 'boldly going where no man has gone before' is actually a way of living. I'm a physicist who work at the university and like to do research, so I'm somewhat used to dive into problems that do not have a clear solution (this doesen't mean that I'm always succeding on finding them), but I like that kind of challenges. Now, however, I feel like somebody who's trying to learn greek by looking at the headlines of a greek newspaper (hello Arianos if you read this :) ).
In any case I can only thank you for your patience

Aha, thanks...

As reported by IFOEdit using the DVd Play button, the sequence is the following:
PGC_2 Title 2 chap 1 : logo
PGC_3 Title 2 chap 2 : screen with movie's name
PGC_4 Title 2 chap 3 : copyright note
Title 2 chap 4 : root menu
upon pressing the 'movie button' on the root menu, then it plays
PGC_6 Title 3 chap 1 : logo (the same as Title2/chap1, so it seems this has been put twice).
PGC_1 Title 1 chap 1 : movie (at last!).
As you can see, I see the same logo twice in this sequence, one before and another after the title menu.
I did not understand your last question, but I tried the post command you said and guess what... once again 'navigation errors'.
Hey, I would be happy if the goal was getting nav errors! I'm much better at getting them than at avoiding them.
there's also a PGC_5 with a blank stream.

Okay...how about doing this in your post command of your PGC_1?

Hey Mate!
since I have to sleep from time to time, I could not do the test you proposed until this morning. I burned everything (but the movie VOBs) in a couple of CDs and tried that here at work.
Apparently, PowerDVD shows that now playback jumps right to the title menu. Good! However, I've learned to be slightly scheptical about PowerDVD... I won't believe this works until I can check with DVD Play in IfoEdit (which here does not work... will try to upgrade direct X or something similar).
So let's be on the positive side and assume this works. Now my problem is an old one :D I have to reencode the main movie to fit everything into a DVD-R. I like to do it the CCE way, and that's why I use DVD2DVDr: this prog runs CCE on the movie and in the end goes through ifoedit to produce new VOBs and IFOs OF THE MAIN MOVIE ONLY. That is, it produces VOBs/IFOs with 1 PGC only.
But it seems that, at least, I must have two PGCs in VTS_01, one for the movie (PGC1) and also PGC5... how can this be doen? Or do I have to finally reathout with something like Maestro to create PGC1 and PGC5 in the sime VTS set? no matter how it is, I would prefer to remove all this PGC stuff and have something with only 1PGC. Maybe I could join PGCs with VobEdit, but then I don't know what would happen to the IFOs that expect more than 1 PGC... Any ideas?
Thx.
