Can't see the links, but I have an AverTV card also. It's a BT878 card.

I started out by trying the software/drivers that came with the card, which will do MPEG-1/2 only. I then switched to BTWinCap drivers, MJPEG, and Vdub, as I had fewer dropped frames and a reasonably lossless codec. I was able to reduce the MPEG-2 frame drops by setting the GOP to 100% I-frames, but at reasonable bitrates (> 6000 kbps) still getting drops, and still using a lossy codec.
