4 disc SVCD to DVD; tried guides, BIG problems with audio...

Hi folks,
I have a 4 SVCD version of a movie. I can merge the 4 .dat files together using TMPGEnc no bother, the trouble is when I try to convert it to DVD compliant MPEG-2! I can use TMPGEnc again to do the video, but when I try to use BeSweet to do the audio, I just get really bad results. (Sound pops and skips). I've a feeling it's got something to do with the framrate of the original source (DVD2AVI recognises it as FILM) so any help would be appreciated. Please, please, don't just point me to the "SVCD to DVD" guide, I've tried it and it doesn't work in this case!! Thanks,

Why not use TMPEGEnc to re-encode the audio (to MPEG Layer II, say) ?

Also, maybe you can re-encode each one of your SVCDS by itself,
get a VOB file from each one and then merge the lot with VOBEdit ...

NTSC Film frame rate is not DVD compliant so most dvd authoring packages will have issues with your video assets. 'pops' & 'crackles' after a BeSweet upsample may be down to the version you are using. If you go from 44.1Khz mpa to 48Khz mpa in version 1.4 you will get crackles. To aviod this you need to produce a wav as a middle step or use the latest beta, or as mentioned use TMPEGEnc with or without tooLame.

i have had probs myself when joining mpegs and then makin it into a dvd....it never gets thge audio right first time

do u mean dont bother jonining ,make each mpeg itto a dvd compatible 1 and then use *WHAT*? programme to author???

Due to the structure of mpegs (GOPs etc) joining & more importantly cutting(editing) mpeg files is very unlikely to result in perfect results. Most programs 'do their best' when performing these operations. To reduce the risk of problems when going from svcd to dvd: don't join the mpegs. Rather use a dvd authoring tool which will allow you to play the unjoined mpegs one after each other - giving the same effect. DVD movie factory allows you to do this (but has its own issues), but i use DVD Maestro. Hope this helps

can u reccomend another??...i like spruce but it dont allow u to play unjoined mpegs all in a row,(theres a pause in between each 1)

i just also found out that if i use pulldown to fix the frame rate it gets rid of the jerky lines :)

Linking up these svcd's when dvd authoring is all very well and good, but when you have an overlap of about 3 seconds, which most svcd's do, linking one to the other is tricky in my experience.
I too use maestro and found it difficult to find the exact point to link up to the next movie via chapter points.

how is this best achieved?
