Codec Installed But Virtualdub Not Seeing It...

Hi there!

Happened today after installing and deinstalling Nemo codec pack.

When I go into virtualdub I open the file. I change audio->Full Processing
Mode. Then I do File->Save wav. It then says:
Error initializing audio stream decompression:
The requested conversion is not possible.
Check to make sure you have the required codec.
Then when I did File->File Information I noticed under Compression it
had "Unknown (tag 0055). So I'm guessing that means it doesn't see the
codec. But GSpot says it's installed and I can hear the sound when I play
the avi so I'm guessing something with virtualdub isn't right.

What can I do to fix this problem?

if you have xp, i'd suggest system-restore (make sure your download/work files stay intact).

if you have the time, i'd suggest re-installing windows.

if you don't/can't do any of those, try gspot (search the forums) to identify the specific codec of the file, and then try installing it manually.

Hmm I installed back nemo pack after my previous post here and I've
got vdub back, but it reported I'm using hacked divx codecs, so I
believe somehow codecs are the problem. After that I deinstalled
every single codec on the system and now there is nothing. No nemo too.
I'll try later today to install divx, xvid, lame3 and I'll see am I
going to get vdub back to normal. I'm pretty sure there is no problem
with vdub but codecs. Nemo just made the mess.

This was the only solution and it helped! Reinstall!

Backup your system with symantec ghost guys. In that way you'll be
able to restore it in minutes.

It's normal, nemo pack must install DivX3.11 alpha, which is a hacked microsoft codec. Vdub recognizes it like a hacked codec, and reports it to you. But it's not a problem. BTW, 'hacked' doesn't mean less efficient, especially in this case...
