NTSC to PAL widescreen.

Hi all,

I want to convert some of my DVD's I picked up when I lived in the US over to PAL so I can watch them back here in the UK. The first one I picked up, Gladiator is a whopper.

I have a widescreen TV and want to encode this movie the best way I can. It tells me on the back of the case that it is Anamorphic 2.35:1 and indeed the image is widescreen when viewed. I ran it through DVD2AVI which told me it was 16:9 and had a 98% progressive frame type.

My first question is - should I be converting this VOB->D2V->AVI (via VFAPI) or can I read the VOB's directly and encode to MPEG?
Second, when I re-encode this, do I set the mpeg to 16:9 or 4:3? When I set it 16:9 it looked stretched and when I load it into an editor it tells me that its 4:3.

you should be able to just forcefilm on the video, speed it up 4%, stretch the height a little, encode it to 25fps, and speed the audio up 4%

as for the aspect, you'll want to keep the animorphic aspect (horizontally compressed), and when you re author, remember to set it to 16:9 so it plays back properly.

I have the almost same problem: I rendered a short animation for a menu but accidentaly left fps at 24. It's for a PAL dvd, so my prob is how the hell can I tell CCE to convert it to 25 fps? When I load the separate frames into cce it converts them at 25, so the vid would be out of sync with the vid... :devil: Any ideas? Thanks,

Ahah, I can answer this (I think)

In CCE, open the Endcoder Settings window and click on the video button, in the next dialog there is a Set button next to Frame Rate. You can set it to 25 and re-encode.

cce 2.66+ has the frame rate setting from memory

you could use an avisynth script "CONVERTFPS(25)" i think this is right and then use AC3 machine and convert the audio to AC3 and 25fps
