I've been converting an avi file into SVCD using DVD2SVCD 1.1.2 build 1. The file "Encoded_audio_1.mp2.wav" contains audio but "Encoded_audio_1.mp2." does not. As a result the finished SVCD has no sound.

Here's the BeSweet log:

I'm using DVD2SVCD 1.1.2 build 1 on Windows XP Pro. The OS runs on a 1.4Ghz AMD w/512MB DDR-RAM PC2100 on an Asus motherboard.

Any help from audio wizzards or others that can spot and help me correct the problem is much appreciated. :)

I had the same problem and found two fixes.

You can manually fix this by using Headac3he to convert the wave file to mp2 and then use avi2mpg2 with your existing mpv that was created by DVD2SVCD. Finally, use VCDEasy to author.

The other way will work depending on the source of your AVI. In my case, I was using VDub to create AVI from MPEG captured from my TV card. I always ran into the same problem you have, no mp2 sound. I then found that in VDub, it was saying that my MPEG had been captured at 29.971 frames. When I use Vdub to change it to 29.97 frames, and then save the avi file (which was then processed with DVD2SVCD), the problem went away. I don't know why, but it works.

You may not be able to use the second method, but the first one should work.

Thanks 4 ur advice. Gonna look into the second one since the first one causes Headac3he to crash.

Here's what happens:

I extract Headac3he to a new directory. I then start it up and select the *.wav files as source and select .mp2 as destination file. When I click on "Start" Headac3he crashes immediately. After that Headac3he crashes upon start every single time.

I read this in the info pane on the right side of Headac3he:
"If you experience instant crashes, try the MMX dlls."

How do I go about that?

On a final notice I can't get to the Headac3he FAQ. The link in the sticky dosen't work.

I don't know why headac3he is crashing on you. It looks like we are using the same processor (AMD 1700). Try a look at Dark Avenger's site and download mp2enc.dll

http://darkav.de.vu/

I have no idea if this will work but it appears to be the mmx dll's.

btw, I forgot to tell you this. After dvd2svcd quits when it is finished processing the 0 size mp2, it leaves a default.ini file in the bbMPEG subfolder. You have to delete this file before avi2mpg2 will work again.

Good luck,

Wadda u know...It did work with the MMX dll's but finding them wasn't that easy.

After the Headac3he conversion I did a crash recover with DVD2SVCD from the "Muxing and cutting" stage and the final SVCD now has sound.

However since the .avi source was NTSC and the SVCD was PAL (that was intentional) the sound was outta synch. So I gotta find an easy way to convert either the *.wav or *.mp2 file from 23.976fps to 25.000fps before I mux and cut with DVD2SVCD.

Thanks 4 all ur help SallyDog. :)

I'm glad it worked for you. Good luck with the NTSC->Pal conversion.
