View Full Version : 2 GBs/Minute AVIs? How do I avoid this?

I want to edit clips from ReplayTV mpegs, but VirtualDub is saving them at 2 GB per minute. How can this be avoided?

[edit]
Okay, I got distracted so I hit "Submit" before I finished. What I was hoping to do is find a way to get around frameserving and load cut .avi files directly into CCE. I really didn't expect .avi files to be nearly that large. Isn't 2 GB/min awfully high?

I'm eager to try any tips or suggestions.

Thanks,

Tim

Select Video/Direct Stream Copy.

Yes - I would love to do that, but VirtualDub doesn't want to save MPEG-2 files.

If it is MPEG2 - the only solution to avoid a temporary file is to do the editing in AviSynth.

VirtualDub is not a MPEG editor, it's an AVI editor with a MPEG import filter. It's OK to recompress but you cannot save them back to MPEG.

If you want to EDIT MPEG files, use a true MPEG editor, such as that one included with TMPGEnc (MPEG tools).
