I ripped LOTR to Divx 5.0.3 a little while back. The only problem is that it kept the 720*480 resolution ov a dvd, so it has those annyoing black letterbox bars on the top and bottom!!!
How can i get these out without reenceding (i know AVISYNTH can do it, but i don't wanna have te reencode).

You can use ffdshow to crop the movie on the fly(while watching). Other than that, or reencoding there are no other ways know to me.

And what's the benefit??!! they have to be there, else the movie will be stretched (more than it's already stretched ¬.¬)
Use BSPlayer and force 16:9 AR to get even bigger bars I would recommend you!!
Of course, if you ripped from a letterboxed version (I mean, not widescreen), just force 4:3 AR.
I repeat the black bars have to be there!

And I say your stupid. Its like the crop cammand in AVISYNTH. It keeps tho same aspect ratio, but gets rid of the black bars. Therefore, the file could be smaller.

No, DJ Bobo is correct. If you crop an already encoded file you destroy the AR, unless you also resize after the crop. And the only choices for doing those two processes are either during playback, or reencoding.
