dvd-9 split (not splitting VTS)

Hi,

I am new to the forum and I've had a few problems with splitting dvd-9 dvds that DO NOT have all the video files within the same VTS title set. Example:

VTS_01
VTS_02
VTS_03
VTS_04
VTS_05

have the opening credits

VTS_06_1.VOB
VTS_07_1.VOB
VTS_08_1.VOB
VTS_09_1.VOB
VTS_10_1.VOB

each are 1 GB each. and there are five episodes on this disk.

this is how i manually copied the files to two folders:

disk 1:
VIDEO_TS.XXX
VTS_01_X.XXX
VTS_02_X.XXX
VTS_03_X.XXX
VTS_04_X.XXX
VTS_05_X.XXX
VTS_06_X.XXX
VTS_07_X.XXX
VTS_08_X.XXX

disk 2:
VIDEO_TS.XXX
VTS_01_X.XXX
VTS_02_X.XXX
VTS_03_X.XXX
VTS_04_X.XXX
VTS_05_X.XXX
VTS_09_X.XXX
VTS_10_X.XXX

disk 1 plays fine, it goes through the dolby digital logo and other logo junk then menu pops up, press play, and it plays fine, all the episodes play back to back.

disk 2 is the problem though. When I press play, it says illegal navigation error. When I tried to edit the "first play pgc", i tried to do "(JUMP_TT) Jump to TITLE" and set it to title 9. it works and when it starts, it skips all the intro junk and goes straight to title 9 then after this episode is done, it goes back to the menu; it does not continue with Title 10. I tried experimenting with the Precommands and Postcommands, but could not get Title 10 to play automatically after Title 9.

I would either like Disk2 to jump to title 9 and continue with title 10, and then end. or be able to edit the main menu, when I press PLAY it won't say illegal Nav. error.

Try Jump to Title 1, not 9. I always do 1. I think ifoedit renumbers them, so 9 turns into 1. Also, you may want to try Jump to Video Manager Menu (if the dvd had a menu and you had the option checked in ifoedit).

Since you have a menu, you can do the same setup in your first post and just delete the buttons in your menu.

Disk 1:
With assumption that your menu if VTS_01_0.VOB, there is menu page that has buttons to your non-existant titles in VTS_09 and VTS_10. You can use MenuEdit to delete those buttons. When the buttons are succesfully disabled, you can safely delete the title VOBs.

Disk 2:
Same concept with Disk 1 but using MenuEdit to delete your buttons for episodes in VTS_06, VTS_07, and VTS_08.

MenuEdit can be found at http://menuedit.dimad.net/home.html

You can view your menus in your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTS Overview / Menu Language Units. Double left click on ones with (uses VOB-IDs) to find out which menu you need to be concern about. Before you use MenuEdit, I would highly recommend you save youf IFOs and your VTS_01_0.VOB to a separate directory since deleting in MenuEdit has no undo feature. If you mess up, just copy over your backup files over the edited one.

Menu Edit worked great. There is only one glitch now in my editing hehe. Hopefully I can fix it one day. 2COOL, on the first disk, after the 3rd episode, the program wants to go to 4th episode but since episode 4 is on DISK2, it gives me the illegal navigation error.

(DISK2 on the otherhand is fine, after episode 5 [the last episode], it goes to the main menu automatically)

This is a minor problem, and I really don't mind if I don't find a way to fix it, but was wondering if you ran into this problem too

Do this first...

In your episode 3, VTS_08_0.IFO / VTSI_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1. Edit your first jump command in your Post Commands to jump to your Title Set 1's root menu. Save IFO and preview.

If that doesn't work...

Post your Post Commands in your Episodes 3 & 5 for me and I'll analyze it for you. Select the VTS_PGC_1 and press "Copy2Clipboard". Paste it in a word processor and highlight and copy only the Post Commands and paste them in your reply.

Thank you for the reply, this is helping a lot. I have been so busy lately with exams. As for the changing the post command it didn't work, still got the illegal nav error. O_o

When I start up the dvd, the cursor is on the play command even though the pointer isn't there. (I can't see the cursor, but I know that on default, it is on the "play" icon) If i don't move the cursor, and press enter on startup, it gets the illegal nav error. But if i move the cursor, it is alright.

Looking at your first post, your episode 3 should've been VTS_08_0.IFO and episode 5 is VTS_10_0.IFO. You replied with episode 2 and 4. Am I understanding your DVD correctly?

Anyway, looking at your post commands, they will navigate to your VMG's (VIDEO_TS.IFO) PGC-Menus when episode is done. Before you start to do any edits, backup your IFOs and BUPs to another folder. If edits don't work, you can always copy back your original IFOs and BUPs over your edited ones. What I want you to try is to edit your post command in your VTS_08_0.IFO / VTSI_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1 / PGC Command Table the same as your VTS_10_0.IFO.

But if i move the cursor, it is alright.It is possible that you may have more than another VobId with the same button layout in MenuEdit that you haven't edited for play button deletion. By the way, can you see any button highlights in your menus after using MenuEdit? I posted a problem to Dimad on this issue of button highlights not aligned or outside of titlespace area.

May I inquire on what DVD you are trying to backup?

okay, the DVD series I am backing up is "Brain Powered". I guess I should have said something, but I went ahead and burned the first DVD (VOLUME1). and the last time I posted was in reference to VOLUME 2, but the 2 problems are exactly the same.

1) disk1 - nav error after last episode. (I will try last recommendation you posted, and update you on situation)

2) when I delete the "play" button on main menu, the highlight still goes to the play button even though it is deleted when the disk is initialized.

Making VTS_07_0 IFO like VTS_09_0 IFO still gave the error. I am just going to burn them this way
