I thought maybe a thread telling people which DVDs copy great (without tweaking) and which tend to be a bit rough around the edges, or so to speak. Main reason being it allows people to tweak their back ups before risking hours of transcoding. So, if you know, lets say, Lord of the Rings is bad quality without heavy compression on the extras, then maybe let us know in this thread. Just an idea. May save some people hours. Might also be good to include links to screen grabs.

The ones I have backed up are...

Back to the Future 2 = Came out great, all features in tact.

Very Best of Have I Got News for You = Considering this is a 8gb DVD I expected the worst, but it really came out well.

Phoenix Nights = You will need to compress the extras a bit more unless you don't mind some ghosting from time to time, but the docmentary and trailer isn't that special anyway so may be best to compress it heavy, same goes for the 15 minute home shopping spoof.

that's what pic quality percent is for. Keep the main movie above 75% or 80% and you'll get fantastic results.

a method could be allocate at least 1.3Gb per hour of movie (rough guesstimate until I use IC again) for large movies, the % should be around 60-65ish but this will still give acceptable quality but this is the minimum I would ever goto

the higher the % the better the quality gets, can't get any simplier than that. 50% is ok for extras but if you have a large movie like LOTR be prepared to strip the uselss stuff, heavily compress the extras and lose some soundtracks to maintain a decent quality movie

for the sake of LOTR, I decided on just a movie with one audio stream & a few selective extras as I can always pull out the original if I ever want to view the other stuff
