View Full Version : Meritline / SuperMediaStore DVD-Pro blanks - very fragile?

I've been using Meritline's DVD-Pro (or DVD-Pro Grade A, or DVD-Pro Silver), mostly because they're cheap (about $0.90 in bulk) and you don't have to freak out if you turn out a few coasters while you get the hang of things. Plus they play on my Apex DVD player and my friends' DVD players (including PlayStation), so I think it's a good brand to start out with.

Anyway, a few days ago, I dropped a backup that I was keeping in a CD jewel case -- the DVD spilled out of the case and picked up some scratches on the bottom. They didn't look serious at first, nothing more than you'd expect to see on a rental DVD that's been around awhile -- but the disc is pretty much dead. If it spins up at all, it chokes quickly thereafter. This is the first disc my Apex has failed on, so I don't think it's the hardware being picky.

Has anyone else experienced fragility issues with DVD-Pro discs? Yes, they're cheap, but I'd rather spend a little more and buy media that won't bit-rot in a year or two. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
