View Full Version : Multisession or Packet Writing

I'm trying to burn to a Pioneer A05 using either multisession or packet writing, but I'm running into a few problems.

Multisession using Nero 5.5.10.15 results in valid discs but only the first session can be read back on my two other DVD-ROMS. The burner itself can read back the subsequent sessions.

Packet writing using Instantwrite is also behaving strangely. For some reason I CAN'T format using UDF 1.02 regardless of the media I use. I've tried CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and different brands of each. The UDF 1.02 format option is ALWAYS greyed out.

Since UDF 1.02 won't work, I try to use 1.5. After writing a few files to it, I finalize the disc but none of my DVD-ROM's will see it without the InstantWrite driver active. I've tried using Windows 2000 and Windows XP with similar results.

I was under the impression that a finalized UDF disk would be readable in any PC that supported UDF (Win98, Win2K, WinXP)it. Should I be using different software? I'd appreciate any suggestions,

Thanks,

Jeneral

Well, since no one offered a suggestion, I'll update my own question with my latest test results.

I tried Veritas DLA and it does everything I needed. It allows incremental writing to DVD's and they are readable in other drives with no additional software! On XP, the discs even mounted without being closed!

VOB Instantwrite dics wouldn't work in other systems unless the IW file system was active. InCD wouldn't work with CD-R's and DVD-R's only RW's.

My HDD was full of stuff that I was waiting to reach 4+ GB before writing to DVD's. Now, I can flush some of this stuff out.

I hope this post helps someone out there.

InCD, DirectCD and InstandWrite are pieces of crap which will kill your data somewhen. Maybe months, maybe days.

Besides that, UDF 1.02 isn't good for packet writing anyways. That's why UDF 1.5 must be used.

Windows' native UDF support only includes UDF 1.02, so you always need special drivers or software to read UDF 1.5 discs.

I concur, I bought InstantCD/DVD and it was full of bugs. Their support was pretty bad too, I would email them the problems I was having with it and they said they needed more info than I could provide!!! I mean other than the error message I was getting and what I did to get that message, what else could I tell them??? BLAH! worst $50 i ever spent on software.

I gave up on trying to do multisession DVD-R's..though I think nero claims it can do it with dvd-rw's. i haven't tried it yet.

I tried (in my SONY DRU-500) DLA, InstantCD & DirectCD.

DLA is downloadable (free) for sony owners from VERITAS site.

Please, consider that I use win98SE with all patches applied and a P3 866 in ASUS p3v4x (VIA chipset).

DirectCD did not work with DVD, it worked only with CD.

InstantCD gave (sometimes) errors... (plus, I really hate Nero).

DLA, well, now I use it (since January) without (any?) problem.

The only problem is that sometimes my Pioneer DVD 105 reader can't read CD/DVD if I don't enable and then disable the DLA's compatibility for that drive (the USE WITH DLA option) after inserting the media.

CDs and DVDs written with DLA can be read in XP (and in win98se even with DirectCD).

I hope this can help you...(and excuse me for my bad English)

I tried InCD (bundled with the drive) on my GF's computer and it couldn't format the discs. I thought the discs were bad at first, but then I tried Veritas DLA and it worked like a charm.

I HAVE use INCD for the last 2 weeks now. did lots of adding & deleting files to make sure its reliable. OK so far. i had trouble with version 1 or 2 (dont remember) cant add data.

i have order roxio 6 & recordnow max which i will try out next week.
of the 3 - roxio has been around the longest.

i guess i m just looking for something that is reliable so when it comes to add or delete datas files - i wont hit a block wall.
