I have written road to perdition several times now to pdi image and it is always 3.71 gig. I have taken out everything but the main movie,ac3,and menu which I leave at 100 pecent. Even if I set it to 4.8 gig like 90 percent of original it comes out at 3.71 gig. This is frustrating! anyone have a solution or have encountered this same issue.

I used IC on Road to Perdition (R1) with sucess by using the following settings:

Menu: 65%
Making Of: 35%
Other Extras: 30%
Main Movie: % maxed to make the overall disc oversized to 4.55GB

I did not remove anything. All audio, subs, and extras are all there. Also, the above numbers are from memory, not exact, but in the ballpark...

The result was a good looking DVD for the menus and main movie. The extras, obviously, did not look so good, but I didn't really care about that. :)

I did have a hard time getting my settings to work at first. IC kept hanging on me when analyzing the menus, which I had originally set to a higher quality - Yeah, don't ask - I don't know why compressing the menus more made it work... But after some trial and error, it worked.

Oh, yes - The resulting disc size was right around 4.3GB!

Good luck!

damonb, don't deselect titles. That is not supported. Reduce them to 30% instead.

mb1 that is not a logical answer. I understand it's not supported by pinnacle, but it has worked for me on the last several backups. Maybe not this one though!

Adding more data to the disc and compressing it only hurts the main movies quality. Every movie I've backed up using IC I removed the titles I didn't need to make more room for improving the main movies quality. Almost every dvd I've backed up I was able to keep the main movie at 100 percent and the menu at 100 percent. (original quality) Leaving in the all titles defeats the purpose, sure maybe I could fill the whole disc but the movie wouldn't be any better quality lol. I would still have my 3.71 gig for the movie and extras now for the remaining few hundred mb.

Anyone else have any experiences with this specific title?

Damonb have you checked that the small PDI include the entire movie from start to end ???

I noticed that sometimes IC stops before the whole process is finished stating that the operation was succesfull when infact some titels or movie parts have still not been processed !!

This usually happens to me with movies that have (MultiAngle)

yes it is the logical answer, removing Titles in IC is not a legitimate option, it's a hack so why do people still whinge when it doesn't work on certain DVD's. It's obvious that is why Pinnacle decided to disable option as IC cannot remove Titles effeciently enough on ecery DVD that has been produced

the simple answer is just to use Ifoedit and strip what you want and in fact its better to use Ifoedit cos you can strip individual VOB ID's and not whole Titles like IC does. It took me so many DVD's before realising IC created non compliant DVD's when removing some Titles and I've never used it since and also had no problems since

Use IC for what it's best used for and that's a 1:1 video backup tool and strip the crap you don't want with something else

this can also apply to DVD95Copy users, strip it 1st then compress giving even more space to your main movie

My Settings for my rip of this movie (german dvd):

Menu: 80%
Movie: 75% (i only left german and english audio)
Making Of: 51% (imho default)

I stripped the deleted scenes within IC, if course i fixed the structure later on with ifoedit and menuedit. IC predicted 4,80 GB, the result was 4,38 GB. After removing the Copyright Warning in the same way, i had 4,36 GB ready for burning.

To hack the program to do something it wasn't designed to do, and then complain or act surprised that it doesn't work right, sounds incredibly illogical to me.

Just something to keep in mind :)

I had the exact same results. I posted my findings over at the dvdrhelp forum http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=147014&highlight=. My method was a little different. I used ifoedit to strip the dvd down to movie only with english 5.1 sound and english subs. Ifoedit created the ifo for me and then I clicked "Get VTS Sectors". The results played perfectly with PowerDVD, but was still a little too big to fit 4.7 GB. So I ran it through InstantCopy numerous times-just like you-a only ended up with a 3.71 GB results. I even maxed out the quality to 100% and then hit the left arrow once to bring it down as little as possible 99.9% and final results were 3.71 GB. I've had the same results with other movies as well (I can't remember which ones off the top of my head). I think DVD2One may be a better solution when you're just trying to strip the movie down to a minimum and don't care about menus. InstantCopy has worked great for multi-episode discs (Sopranos & Band Of Brothers).

this will probably be down to remove the extras but not doing it properly, so IC is still thinking the DVD is still so big, so when it comes to doing the processing it processes nothing so end's up even smaller

you do not have to use 'Get VTS' sectors when removing video or audio

It may be down to audio cos I had a similar problem ages ago with the Simpsons and a 'Phantom' audio track that wasn't there in the end result and the end result was nowhere near the predicted yet it had still included the 200MB for the track!, so I ended up with a smaller file

so seeing you have stripped all the rubbish yourself (looks like you just rip the movie with DVDDecrypter! and leave the rest) and left just the movie/one audio track, I very much doubt you have maintained the reduction in size correctly throughout the files so IC is probably including the stuff it is missing in it's calcuations even though it doesn't show in the Titles selection screen

that post you link to, I have actually replied to it (MackemX), and told you that you were 'Butchering' the DVD and giving it to IC and expecting miracles

granted your method may work on some DVD's but it won't work on every one but if you use IC the correct way and watch what you can and can't do with a DVD then you will get positive results 100% of the time

funnily enough I am going to backup my copy of this today and only keep the 5.1 sound also, so I'll keep an eye out for this as I may just be talking crap :D

If I leave this 'Get VTS Sectors' step out I can't burn the resulting stripped down movie with RecordNow DX. It gives me an error immediately after I start the burning process. Of course, this is only relevant when the stripped down movie is small enough to fit without reencoding.

I wish I could use IC properly, but my Sony DVPS-7700 player doesn't like the menus that it creates most of the time. I started butchering the movies in an attempt to make the backups compatible with this player. The only thing I'm a little confused about is that DVD2One has no problem reencoding the stripped down version to the specified size. It doesn't think that there are extra audio tracks, trailers, deleted scences ect. When I look at the stripped down movie in IC it doesn't show anything that isn't actually there. The actual size of the movie is shown correctly. You're absolutely right that this method works sometimes and doesn't work other times. I'm hoping that there might be a way to improve the results with the latest IC update and some of the registry hacks. Anyway, thanks for your help both here and over at the dvdrhelp forum.

I don't know if it's the same with the english/R1 DVD, but on the german dvd of this movie there was about 4-500 MB junk data at the beginning of VTS_01_1. Because IC will strip this data (it's assigned to no title or vob_id) the result will get smaller even with no compression.

The Movie had 4,9 GB, including these 500 MB and 3 audio tracks. Maybe Video + 1 Audio has only 3,71 GB at all.

Back to the Future trilogy also has the useless files of around 270MB in each movie that have no use at all but IC just ignored them but I don't think it affected my resulting filesize
