vts_01_4.vob unrippable on 'road to perdition' <HELP>

i'm attempting to rip and produce a backup svcd of 'road to perdition' using dvd2svcd, but i'm having problems ripping the dvd....more accurately vts_01_4.vob off the dvd. i can get each of the others (vts_01_1 thru vts_01_6) without problem. i've tried vstrip, dvd2svcd's internal routine, smartripper, dvddecrypter, all to no avail. #4 starts to rip, then @ 41% starts slowing, then to a standstill @ 44%. i think this is rather strange, especially since the movie plays on my pc (windvd) and standalone w/out a hitch.

i've just about given up. any idea as to why this may be occuring. i have a 2.2GHz running xp w/ 512 of ddr. i have ripped/backed up many other dvd's of mine without problem using dvd2svcd/vstrip/cce or tmpgenc.


please help!

sounds like a bad disc, try another
i just did it with dvddectrypter with no probs

Have you tried it without fast error skip on?

DVDs arent like CDs. They dont have bad sector copy protection on them so if you ever get an error, its very bad!

You therefore shouldnt ever really enable fast error skip.

yeah, tried it w/out. actually turned it on secondary to a reply i got on 'cdfreaks' forum where someone had similar problems which resolved by turning fes on and setting to 2.

i'm really at my wits end on this one! sounds like i'm the only one w/ the problem (or the only one actively searching for a remedy). i was told that turning off dma on my dvd-rom may resolve the issue........but i'm not sure how to do that!

i've tried 2 different copies of the movie, and the error was identical when attempting to rip. also tried every ripping prog i know of.

any further assistance would be appreciated!

It is a hardware issue, so it doesnt matter what you use to attempt to rip it, they will all fail when reading that sector.

My advice to you would be to try it in a mates DVDROM.
Some read dodgy discs better than others.

I don't know for sure if everybody has the same road to perdition dvd or if they made a certain amount of them to test a new copy protection scheme, but I just bought this dvd and can not rip it on my main 2.8 p4 computer with dvr-a05, my son's 1.5 p4 samsung 16xdvd, or my hp laptop with a fuji dvdrom, three different systems, three different dvd drives tried smart and decryptor on this dvd(which I opened and put RIGHT in the dvr-a05) and get the same results 44% on vts_01_4.vob. then after reading several posts I am finding many people with the same problem at the same point... Hmm sounds like trouble is coming....:devil:

using my pioneer dvr-a05 with rip speed firmware hack, extra slow but finally did it

dont know if this helps ya, but i had similar issues trying to rip "lock stock and two smoking barrels", tried every ripper known to the universe, no go. in my case, the disc contains a fullscreen as well as a wide screen title, so, it was title 7 i was having trouble with,but title 2 would rip fine. so, i wound up with the 16X9 instead of the 4x3. this is no biggie to me, and i was happy to be able to convert the movie. of course if you dont have two aspect options ion the disc, totally disregard everything i just said:D
