View Full Version : dvd2one produces a lot of bad blocks, is it me only ?

I totally respect this software for it's speed and I don't even notice a major change in quality of picture but I have noticed that in every movie I try to backup at least 5 random frames are screwed (I haven't seen any posts mention this). In some cases the screen is filled with green blocks and in others straight white lines or jagged blocks appear on the top left or top right of the screen (all this for a split second but quite visible..).

[EDIT]
Something I didn't mention earlier is that I notice the macroblocking effects appear before I even burn anything, that is I open the final render of the dvd with power dvd and that's where I notice the artifacts, so the burning process or the media has nothing to do with the problem.
[EDIT]

What I am wondering is, could this be caused by my setup ( I have an Athlon 1200+ with 512 Mb ram and 2 HDD's 30 and 40 Gb at 7200 rpm ), or is it something that come's along with the prog ? A friend of mine with a faster machine hasn't had any such problems so what I am trying to find is similar cases and a possible solution.
Thanks in advance for any help supplied.

I think you have answered your own question... A faster machine perhaps. I have three machines, on two of which I do video, one is an Athlon 2000+ w/256 PC133 RAM, and a Sony DRU-500AX burner, and the other is and Athlon 2100+ w/512MB PC2100 and the Pioneer A04,I've burned nothing but High quality and no problems, all flawless. For Media I use Verbatim +R, and TDK -R.

One odd thing I've noticed is I am using Nero's latest v5.5.10.7 and when I use -r media in the drive, it will only offer 2x for highest burning speed, and this drive,(Sony DRU500AX) lists as a 4x, for Dvd-R media. Any one have any clues as to why this is...?

Hope this helps,

i think it anylises the media you put in and auto selects,i bet if you put a 4x disk in it will allow you to change it!

I don't think it has anything to do with processor speed. I stopped using DVD2One because I was not satisfied with their image quality.

Uhm the processor speed shouldn't have any effect on the quality.
That makes no sense :) It would only transcode slower.

perfect backup every single time whit great results, almost a perfect picture
nothing to complain about period!;)
and btw i use PIII-800mhz-256
takes ab 40a60 min p/movie

using Ritek,Princo's and white labels,always burn @ 1X
no probs on any single disc aint that rare?!:)

so my conclusion is 10/10 for dvd2one(+subs only!)
another good alrounder is new dvd95copy
quality loss on extra's but verry good backup
tested whit great results every time,il give it 9/10

so i dont get all the fuss about the quality, quality is perfect ;)
