I've downloaded a few avi tv-shows, and most of them work fine...
But a couple of them display only the first frame of the video and continue playing the audio portion while the video is frozen at the first frame. Does anyone know what the problem is? These files were pretty hard to get so I don't think I want to look for different versions of the files...
Any help would be much appreciated!

Please review the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), particularly rules 9 and 1a.

By searching, you would have found many people recommend examining AVI files with GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot21.zip). You'd also found recommendations to use ffdshow (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdshow-20021213.exe) for playback of many MPEG-4 codecs, such as DivX, XviD, and SBC, among others. You'd have found many discussions of playback problems based on AVI player, or perhaps DivX 4/5 codec configuration settings -- and even learned that there's a bug with the setting tool with DivX 5.0.3 that's been recently reported, and more recently circumvented.

I'm sorry about the title, but I have searched the forums and did not find any answers relating to my problem, and so I posted here. I have tried using those apps to fix it, and they either mess it up more or do nothing. The video freezes on the first frame and continues playing audio, and when I try to seek, it still displays the same frame but with the audio corresponding to that frame. I'm guessing it's just bad encoding?

What did Gspot tell you about the avi contents?
What codecs are used for the video and sound?
Which releases of those codecs do you have installed?
What AVI player are you using?
If you are using DivX 4 or DivX 5 for playback, what codec playback settings are you using?
If you are using ffdshow for playback, what settings are you using?

All the codecs are installed and seems to not detect any errors. I am using Windows Media Player 6.4. I have decided to just trash the files and look for working versions. Thanks anyway for your help.
