Hi there.

What's the best way to create a subpicture with text for a DVD menu?
I use Photoshop to create the text for the menu and it gives me 5 different choices i.e. " none, sharp, crisp, strong and smooth".

Here's what I've been doing:

1 - I create the menu with an image and the menu options at 720x540. Resize it to 720x480 and save it as .psd

2 - I create a subpicture with the menu options in black and white background at 720x540. Resize it to 720x480 and save it as .bmp

3 - Import them into Scenarist, blah, blah, blah...

It seems that no matter what setting I use for the fonts in Photoshop, I can still see a little bit of the text on the background when the menu option is highlighted.

Here's a link to a zipped file in case someone wants to take a look at the them (.psd, .bmp, .bup, .ifo and .vob).It's only 376k zipped.

Thanks in advance.

First off, what authoring program do you use?

If you are using Scenarist (I think Maestro is the same)...Then the reason for this is that you are replacing Black with Yellow in the subpic. Only "Pure Black" will be replaced. Your text, on the other hand, consists of blended "almost black" colors which show up as your black border on the menu selection. One way around this is to convert your subpic to a 4 layer image with NO BACKGROUND COLOR would give you just 4 colors for your text. Then you map those colors in Scenarist or Maestro to Yellow when selected, then whatever your action color is. If it won't work with NO BACKGROUND COLOR, you can just use the other 3 text colors besides your background color for the conversion. I played with this a couple weeks ago and it turns out great if you get through the process. There is a guide here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39172&highlight=antialiased) by fankey.
