Thanx for the heads up!

Grabbing it now. Hope it solves some of the bugs

:(

Well, with great anticipation, I installed the update, in the hope I could then encode the Sweetest Thing (R2). The speed of the updated version is brilliant, far quicker at encoding without torturing the machine. But, yet again, it get's to a branch in the menu for the main film, hangs for a while, then just bombs out........Multicopy needs to be closed.....

Any ideas peoples???

Awesome. I'm trying it now on Rocky Horror, my problem child DVD.

This is very unlike Pinnacle to come out with a patch so quickly. It must be the former VOB employees. ;)

EDIT: Rocky Horror still crashes out by the end.

hmmm mb1 ....your a saint...ok I'll mirror it for awhile but hopefully there's other mirrors out there too. Don't think I'll have time for 15 more hours till I can even play with it though..suck.
3 mirrors so far www.mrbass.org/instantcopy (http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/)

Can anyone confirm whether or not this updates the demo or what? Or is there a new demo?

I would have thought this thread would blossem to a bazillion posts in no time...Well, good for those of us who are watching...you can still download the update with good speed (I was getting 72kbps using a download manager with 5 parts).

Can anyone else confirm that the speed is improved. I would have thought that if Pinnacle made improvements to speed, those would be the FIRST thing they'd mention in the list. Instead, there's no mention at all of speed in the list...

Now to find out if disabling the video output by the registry change will allow the program to run on my dual processor HP Kayak XU800 (which has so far stubbornly refused to work with InstantCopy, even if I force IC to run on only one processor...)

Well, I have the 7.0.0.91 ful retail version, and it isn't working at the moment - I'll try at home later.

After I installed the update I got an error saying PS Drive check found an error with the drivers installation, do I want it to correct ? Has anyone said OK and what were the results ? The program does work fine the way it is, concerned that if I let it make corrections to the drivers it might mess up the multitude of other dvd/cd appliactions I have on my computer.

quite funny....im a beta tester of IC7, and this list looks exactly like the list of things i sent them that needed urgent fixing...guess they're listening quite well :)

Is the undersize bug fixed in this update?

rolandb5
12th March 2003, 18:31
Isn't the reserved video value the cause of the undersize? So that the 6 % value means, they reserve 6 % for unexpected things.

Lowering that value could be the solution.

Not sure tough.

As well they should...Right now, they are leading this pack of DVD copying programs. Perhaps not among all the hackers on boards like this, but in the marketplace. They are the only program that will have shelf space in every major retailer. They are the only program available at B&M retailers that can copy an entire DVD9 onto a DVD5.

They have the lead here, and it's theirs to blow.

DVD95copy, DVDxCOPY, DVD2one, etc. all have their relative strengths, but if Pinnacle takes this product seriously and comes out with a set of timely updates to address the issues people are having with InstantCopy, the other guys are going to be niche players.

And no, I have no vested interest in any of these programs. I just want a program that does great copies without any bugs. That's "all" :-)

Here's the link to the US website with the patch and patch info. I'm getting 30kb/s download speed.

I really hope they fix the undersize issue with this patch. I did a movie last night that came out to 3.74GB
I'll test it tonight.

Just did way of the gun R2. And it was undersized. So no solution there. But the F5 trick still works, so no problem there either :)

Got this also whem I ugraded from 7.0.0.91. I Also have a startup monitor running which gives a signal when a program tries to load itself to be run at startup, got a message from this program that driver check program tried to load itself at start up, I allowed it to do so. When reboot my Elby image drive (clonecd) mentioned that somebody messed around with the drivers and ask if I want to correct it. I acknowledge the message. Although everthing seem to work fine after this I decided to do de-install of instantcopy and a registry clean (to remove al vob entries) as de-install leaves in the registry values. After that installed 7.0.0.80 and upgraded to 7.0.1.114 no messages this time. Burned a CD and DVD in meantime, everthing seems to work fine

(O yeah second time of upgrade I disabled the virus scanner (PC-Cillin) don't know if it is related to it, anyhow)
... mmm strange

Strange... I have two machines here with the full version on them (Purchased even!). One of them upgraded without a hitch, the other gives me an error (can't find the previous install). Anyone have any insight? I was thinking it was paths to the originals, but both were the same.

I think one machine was upgraded from the demo to the full version, then to the update. The other was freshly installed with the 7.0.0.91 version straight from the CD. Could this be the problem?

jzaman

(can't find the previous install error)

When you install the update to the retail version you need to create another shortcut on your desktop for version 114 to work. Delete the shortcut to instant copy on your desktop. Recreate the shortcut.

I changed the "DVDSaveQuality" value from 6 (initial 6%) to 1 (for 1%). Instead of the usual 8-9% smaller file I got a 2.5% (i.e. I picked 4.34GB for encoding and resulted a 4.24GB, actual change=2.3%)
I have now changed the "DVDAnalyzeMaxRel" to 15% instead of 7%. Giving IC more space to control the size it will result better and accurate files! I will report findings.

jippiejajee-thanks for the reply. I just decided to disable running PSDrvCheck at startup and not let it "correct errors." Everything seems to be running fine (CloneCD, Nero, Record NowMax, DVDXCOPY, etc, etc.

I figured out the upgrade problem. I exported the registry tree on the good machine and merged it with the registry on the one that wouldn't upgrade. Everything was smooth sailing after that.

Apparently it didn't like something in there, but I didn't do too much digging to find out what.

mgd72
13th March 2003, 04:45
I installed the patch then ran a test at default settings without changing anything. The test was Disc 5 of Deep Space Nine episodes. The result was 4.12GB

Next, I changed these reg settings to these: (I forget what the default was)
DVDAnalyzeMaxRel value to 16
DVDSaveQuality value to 2
I also deleted the discdata.add and discdata.adi files
And I disabled the online transcoding database (This was disabled on first test also)

The result was a file size of 4.26GB. Nothing else was changed but these two settings. I didn't delete any titles or change the compression. I did keep only 1 audio track for each test.

One thing I noticed besides the file size change was that the video analyze took longer than before (as a result of changing the DVDAnalyzeMaxRel I assume). It was grabbing frames every 10 seconds or so to analyze. It took probably 10 minutes longer than before to do the video analyze. I can live with this as long as the sizes come out right. I think my next job I will set the DVDSaveQuality to 1 to see how much closer it gets to 4.36GB.

Hope this helps

I am still having problems running the update, getting the

"Cannot find Instantcopy. This update requires an installed full verision of Instantcopy"

message. I've tried deleting and recreating the desktop shortcut as per a previous post with no luck.

Anyone got a reg file form one that has worked ? Again, a previous post mentioned there might be something in there ?

Thanks

Thanks Mr Bass - do you mean written on the CD surface itself or in/on the packaging somewhere ? Either way I'll have to wait until I get home tonight.

mrbass
13th March 2003, 11:28
well if it says 7.0a then you got 7.0.0.91. It seems like some people didn't uninstall the demo version then reboot (as they should have..remember folks windoze is windoze). After the reboot then install their retail version. I did that and had zero problems. Disable any antivirus when you install cd/dvd burning apps like InstantCopy, clonecd, discjuggler, video drivers, etc.

when you get home tonight? You must live in Asia I suppose...It's 2:30am and I'm hitting the sack...7:30am I gotta be at work. BTW I added those registry hacks for version 7.01 IC7.01reghacks.zip (http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/IC7.01reghacks.zip)

neo_sapien
13th March 2003, 11:43
DVDAnalyzeMaxRel value to 16
DVDSaveQuality value to 1

AOTC Disc 1 R1 came out at 4.33 gigs when I set Instantcopy to 4.37 gigs. I hope that's a good omen that all future rips will be similarly filesize accurate.

Oneiroxy
13th March 2003, 12:38
I will try with DVDSaveQuality value to 0! Theoretically it should give you the smallest difference when used with bigger DVDAnalyzeMaxRel value (above 15)

Update worked fine for me !

I can now also pick what title i want.
I could not get that to work with mrbass his reg file.
So the update is working fine for me.

Only it still takes a lot of time if a movie is 7GB large.
90 - 120min.

So for this moment i'll stick to DVD95COPY ! cause it's a little faster at the moment then instantcopy.

mgd72
13th March 2003, 13:08
I just set the DVDSaveQuality to 0. The slider was left at the default of 4.31GB. The file ended up being exactly 4.31GB. I hope it works out like this on them all ;)

The registry settings in the "sticky notes" are these the default settings after update?

quadguy

Turning off the video display fixed my problems running InstantCopy on my Kayak XU800 machine with an Oxygen GVX1 video card. I thought it might be a problem with the video card (PowerDVD doesn't work properly with it)...Yup. Turned off video display and the program runs straight through. Before it would crash almost immediately.

Getting happier!

Anyone figure out if there's any truth to suggestions that this update either:

A) makes the encode go faster or
B) improves the quality of high compression encodes (e.g. 30%)?

Quad

Fmazzanti

Yesterday I gave it a try. Updated without problems and didn't had to do anything about registry hack, 'cause it seemed to keep the previous settings. But honestly, I can't see any difference from previous release... faster? Nop, better quality? Psche... honestly I can't tell.
previous version worked ok for me and seems that this one works well also.
However, one thing I must say (though I haven't tested with the update) is that sometimes IC screws up my menus. Starnge, because I usually keep them 100% (so no compression is done), and in the final product I can see sometimes strange 'holes' in a menu, showing parts of another menu. Now I don't smoke the kind of things you're thinking, I say the truth. Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

13th March 2003, 17:50
Did you read anything about 'speed optimizations' and 'quality optimizations' in the above change list. Sorry but I did not.
So what do you expect ?

I noticed your menu problem only once when I redid some ifo settings (with ifoedit).

Did you burn with IC7 or did you extract the pdi's and burn with other progs ?

Take it easy, man... I said that because people in this thread has been asking this. Actually i do not expect anything.

Extracted the pdi's and buned with Nero. Maybe Nero can be blamed for this... don't know. All I can tell is that I've also burned other DVD's with Nero keeping original menus and never had this problem, that's why i think it's an IC issue.

I too have experienced the "Holes in Menus" that Fmazzanti mentions. In fact, I was about to report it as a bug, as I said on the last posting on this thread
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46701
It happens on two backups of mine (Robin Williams Live on Broadway & The Emperor's New Groove), but I stopped, because upon investigating further, these "Holes" do not appear on Power DVD nor various Standalones, so they might be standalone specific. (E.G. Philips 743, Marantz 4200E, both made by Philips)
And yes, I keep my menus at 100% :)
and no, I did not mess with ifoedit.
BTW, Now, one can operate IC7 with Remote Desktop on WinXP! YES!!! :)

MackemX
13th March 2003, 19:17
LOL :D

IC ain't the problem for the majority of cases I've seen posted

it's the lacking of a stable, fully compliant OS with a fully competent operator that's the answer behind most people's problems :D

even some of the problem DVD's have been copied ok, so why is it they work for some people when others claim they don't?

ok there may be a few problem DVD's, but I reckon there are only a few and not as many as people seem to claim

another example of this is Nero, people complain about it and don't recommend it, yet in over 300 DVD's, for me it's yet to create a coaster unless the actual files I'm burning are at fault. Even my new SONY DAVS plays them without even batting an eyelid!, aswell as any other friend or relatives player I try them on, even the fussy ones

so my recommendation to people is to look at your OS, your method of backing up from ripping to burning, the quality of the media you are backing up, the quality of the media you are burning on and finally the standalone you are playing the media on before you start blaming any programs

:)

p.s. don't take this personally tho

hmmm I rebooted and up comes this Pinnacle detects driver conflict I let it do it's thing but I was curious what was conflicting with it? Daemon tools, windvd, powerdvd, etc. Anyway maybe we won't hear reports of vobax or other strange errors some have been having.

It still has the fault that it will not copy across the main movie at 100% if you change the default settings of any other title. You can deselect titles, and ramp the main movie up to 100%, but not squeeze any of the extas you want to keep without it reencoding the main movie. Odd bug.:(
