Problem with DivX 5.03 playback from CD:
Video is stop and go, audio out of sync and repeating as if trying to sync with video.
The cpu load is only 30%-55%: The computer should be fast enough.
I tried different CD media brands without solving the playback problem.
I tried several players, toyed with some settings but still the same.
The decoder called is the DX50 as it should be.
The very same movie played as a file from the hard-drive plays perfectly.
The same movie encoded DivX 3 with identical settings and bitrate plays perfectly both from CD and HD.

You might want to try using (or stop using) smooth playback and double buffering. I don't know if it is still a problem but a while ago one of them caused studdering in the video. I think this was with the first divx 5 decoders though.

You might also try downloading ffdshow and give it a try. I think it is much better.

PS You also might want to check and make sure that DMA is enabled.

thanks for the suggestions:
I went through the list but found that only smooth play disabled improves the cd playback a little.
ffdshow also improves playback a little.
It seems that nobody else has this problem - it must be something uniquely inherent in my setup and not something inherent in the codec itself.

correction to my initial post: the decompressor called is not DX50 but the DivX 5.03 Pro.

The video is no longer studdering but at times uneven speed with audio then trying to synch.

found the problem: I had the re-clock audio filter installed.
Simply by uninstalling the filter solved the entire playback issue.
I had looked at this filter before but only toyed with the settings: just disabling the filter really had no beneficial effect.

Well .... I am not sure what else I can tell you right now. Just make sure that your cdrom has DMA enabled, and you might look around for tweaks to increase performance. You might also try looking for a program that will automaticly buffer a the cdrom. (I know there is something like that for dvd playback, but I can't remember it at the moment.)

I really like the quality of the DivX Pro 5.0.3 in combination with ffdshow!
I am glad I did not give up on this.
thanks for the help.
