TMPGenc and AC3

I have some divx and xvid movies with ac3 that I want to convert to DVD since I just bought a pioneer ao5 this week. I was wondering if TMPGenc will convert the AC3 to mp2 or will it leave it as is. My previous svcd conversions would not recognize the ac3 audio track and had to be converted to wav to encode, but they will load under the DVD parameters. If TMPGenc converts the audio, what to you guys recommend to use to mux the ac3 with the mpeg2 video instead of TMPGenc?

whether tmpgenc will load the ac3 audio out of a avi all depends on the directshow codecs available for decoding ac3 from an avi (which officially is NONE).

as for muxing the mpeg2 with the ac3, after the encoding process creates a video only elemantary stream (m2v), use the mpeg tools in tmpgenc to multiplex the m2v and ac3 together.

however, most good authoring programs will want the m2v and the ac3 separately ;)

Thanx for the reply. The audio is converted. When I demuxed the ac3 with vdub from the original avi, tmpgenc will not let me mux it. The file comes up as invalid. As far as I know, vdub incorrectly writes the header on ac3 files and this is probably why I cannot mux it. Non vdub files will mux no prob. The file plays correctly independantly so I know it is valid. I tried re-encoding it with ac3 machine but the file is very noisy and is missing much of the sound. This file will load correctly though even though it sounds poor. Are there any other suggestions for muxing or fixing the vdub file so it will be recognized?
