They did the same tests as some time ago when testing 2x / 2.4x discs. The results for 4x discs are the following:
- Verbatim 4x DVD+R discs showed a PIF max value of 1 on the Nec 1100A and 3 in the Sony DRU500A (4 is defined as maximum for dvd+r; Verbatim 2.4x discs showed 7 in their last test, and Princo dvd-r or similar crap has values over 10 at 1x speed)
- Ritek G04 are not as good as Pioneer 4x discs, but they are far away from being bad and can be recommended.
- Although the jitter on the tested DVD-R discs is lower than on the Verbatim DVD+R disc, it's always below 9% and thus no problem at all
- the write quality of the Sony DRU500A is lower than of the single format recorders, but it has been improved with each firmware update and is now pretty good. For example, firmware 1.0g has less than half of the PI sum 8 error rate on Verbatim 4x DVD+R than firmware 1.0f.
The write quality on every single disc was better than Ritek G03 at 1x speed!
