View Full Version : Colour differences between divx and original

I just finished encoding Scratch using divx5.02 following the procedure listed on this site almost to the T. Anyway, the movie looks fine - quality is great, but the color seems seems pretty dull compared to the original. It seems like it needs to be brighter or something. Is this pretty common? If so, is there a way to make the divx more like the original? Thanks,

Eddy Cooper

It could depend on your resize method. Lanczos produces more vivid color that bicubic resize, IMO. However, there shouldn't be much color variation between the source and your encodes in DivX. Check your playback settings for DivX, as the source DVD and the DivX video use different filters for playback; the problem could lie within those settings.

Hi-

I agree that the Bicubic resizers tend to wash out the colors a bit. If it bothers you, you might try and saturate them a bit more by using the Tweak Filter in your .avs. A setting like:

Tweak(Sat=1.2)

might do it for you. If you want it brighter, then:

Tweak(Bright=10)

might work. Or you can combine them both. Here's some more information on the settings available to you when using Tweak:

And here's a list of the filters available within AviSynth 2.07 and AviSynth 2.5:
