AVI --> AC3 and vob --> AC3 ???

hi guys i dint find a good guide that explain a way to convert avi to ac3 and vob to ac3.

I need some suggest about a good program that do this.

and

what´s the best video codec Xdiv MPEG-4 or divx3.11 ????
coze the best resolution film´s that i saw used this two.

i don't know exactly what you want...
to clear things up:
avi and vob files are containers... you cannot convert them to an audiofiles as it also contains video!

the only thing you can do is extract the audio. in the normal vob files there is usually an ac3 track so you just have to extract it (or demux it as it is also called) you can do that with dvd2avi see the guides on doom9 for details!


when you are dealing with an avi file it is a little more difficult. you can demux it using virtualdubmod or nandub... again see the guides for details. but then you'll end up with a mp3 file. if you really need to convert it to ac3 you could do that but it wouldn't make any sense for anything else but dvd creating!
