Ripping takes 1 hr now instead of the usual 10-20 mins

I was watching Hallow Man yesterday and at about 1 hour into the movie the movie froze up. (I was watching it on my computer using powerDVD and overlaying it onto my TV) So, naturally, I stopped the DVD because the program was no longer responding. When I tried to restart playing the DVD, it would not start at all, I got a macrovision fail error. It was late at night so I just went to bed. This morning, before I came to seek the wisdom of everyone at this forum, I played around with some stuff that I found suggested elsewhere on these forums and I got rid of the error. But that part in Hollow man still does not work. And here is the kicker...now I cant seem to rip DVD's at a reasonable speed...it takes about 1 hour no matter what program I use. ie smartripper, DVDdecrypter, or vstrip.

Now I'm stumped.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem before and/or would be able to help me out.

Check to see if DMA is enabled on your DVD drive. That sounds like the problem you're having.

The problem was the IDE controller. After I reinstalled it the DVD player worked fine.

Yeah, it should be. Because PowerDVD always ask you to enable DMA mode after the installation.

Matpod, how do you do that? i think i am having the same problem. my ripping is unusually slow now.

If you are running XP

You go to your "My computer" icon, right click it and select properties. Then go to the "hardware" tab and press the "device manager" button.

You can then choose IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. If you expand it there should be some IDE controllers to uninstall. Restart your system and XP should automatically re-install them.

That worked for me cause that Hollow Man DVD wreaked havoc on my DVD software for some reason...
