View Full Version : extremely jerky picture, audio fine

Hello everybody.
I am having problems making a backup of XXX,
(the movie w/vin diesel),and could use a little help
figuring out where I went wrong.
The video is EXTREMELY jerky, moving one frame every 3-4 seconds. I've never seen one so bad. Since this was my first time using
CCE, I assumed that was the problem. I made 2 attempts, one with
4-pass VBR, and the second with CBR.
I assume my other DVD2SVCD options are correct, since I've used it twice before with good results. However, its the first time I'm
encoding to Mpeg-1 with this program.
The mounted image is jerky, playing the muxed file in WMP is jerky,
the .VOB files play fine in PowerDVD.
Here is my logfile -

Any Suggestions?

Your main problem is the mux rate, but

1. CCE is not very good at mpeg-1. If you want mpeg-1 use TMPG.
2. For a higher then normal VCD bitrate you will need to manually adjust the BBmpeg Forced Mux rate. Try a search for these terms as it's been covered in detail before.
3. Don't use WMP to watch the images. Use a real program like WinDVD or PowerDVD.

1. I do use PowerDVD for the images, I just used WMP for the
bbmpeg muxed file.
2. Attempted DVD2SVCD conversion again. Changed encoder to TMPGEnc,
as suggested, for MPEG-1 video. It took 17 hours with my P4
1.6gig. Result is the same, with audio quality perfect, video
very jerky. The video picture itself is excellent, just jerky.
Like the picture changes every 3-4 seconds. Again the
muxed file plays jerky, the image (mounted and played w/
PowerDVD)is jerky and the .vob files play fine. I've backed up many
DVDs (most without the DVD2SVCD program, but my first two attempts
at using this program were successful.) I'm wondering if this
could be something with the XXX movie itself. Has anyone reading
succesfully copied this movie? Would posting my new logfile
be useful?

maybe the file is interlaced have you used bitrate viewer to check, or you could encode a chapter with different deinterlace settings...

"bitrate viewer"?

I'm unfamilliar with this program. Are you referring to a
bitrate calculator?

I've left all the bitrate values in DVD2SVCD at default.

I think the problem is the Forced Mux rate in BBmpeg like I said in my previous post. I tried to search this and I couldn't find the answer that I know I gave before so I will try to repeat it here.

As I said the problem is that you are doing mpeg-1 and using a mux rate for standard VCD's which have an 1150Kbit video rate and a 224 Kbit audio rate. You have raised these a good bit so you will need to raise the Forced Mux Rate to compensate.

Now you have three choices to fix this.

1. Change to Mpeg-2 video so that 0(automatic) works.
2. Change your bitrates to VCD spec.
3. Manually adjust your Forced Muxed rate higher until the BBmpeg errors go away.

To do this DVD2SVCD must be in advanced mode. Click on Advanced settings on the BBmpeg Tab. There you will see a popup with one of the settings being forced Mux rate. You will need to raise this rate and I don't know the formula so you will have to just try numbers. Start about 500 points higher then what is there. During the muxing restore bbmpeg so you can watch it. If there are any errors you will need to adjust the rate higher until these go away. You goal is to be right on. To be just high enough to get rid of the errors while not being too high. This may take a few tries to get it right.

Option 2 seems easiest. My audio bitrate was set at 192, I've changed
that to 224.
I'm unsure how to change video bitrate. Under the bitrate tab,
my settings are as follows:
Max 2530 Min 300 Min Avg (unchecked) 1600 Max Avg 2230
Which of these do I change?

Also, I found a link to that bitrate viewer program in a previous post. Here it is if anyone else needs it:

do not be using vbr on mpeg-1 if your trying to make a standard vcd. Also TMPGEnc is the one to use.

set your settings as follows (NOTICE: 1150 across the board)

Thanks mrbass, that was quite informative. I've adjusted my settings
accordingly. The only change I made was to set it for 60 mins per
CD, instead of the 78 per you have listed.

I will try encoding again tonight.

Thanks also to markrb, although his advice is a bit beyond my
limited knowledge. I did look for that newbie forum to post in(suggested in an old post I ran across while researching), and I appologize if I ask redundant questions, but I always at least TRY on my own.

changing to 60 instead of 78 is useless since you are forcing a rate of 1150 which you can fit 80 mins of on a standard 80 min cd. I'm not sure how dvd2svcd will process this as I have never tried it, but it won't help you in any way.

One thing I forgot is that you will need to load the VCD.ini file to create VCD without further intervention.

It's real simple. Goto the Misc tab, find the load settings button, press it, navigate to the DVD2SVCD directory, find and load the VCD-settings.ini file. This will set the bitrates and BBmpeg to VCD spec. If you want to change to doing SVCD in the future all you have to do is load the DVD2SVCD.ini or the SVCD.ini file the same way.
