Sony DRU500A 1.0f & 1.0g 4x burning firmware problems

I am having major problems with my Sony DRU500A, when I first bought my drive it came with firmware 1.0d, which was fine for Ritek 4x dvd-r's but 2x Ritek dvd-r's only burned at 1x, however I flashed my drive with firmware 1.0f, this caused 2x Ritek dvd-r's to burn at 2x, but the 4x Ritek dvd-r's whilst detected by the burning software as 4x, only burned at 2x.

I took my drive to a friends house where we burned successfully a 4x dvd-r on 1.0f at 4x, on returning it to my PC, it went back to 2x.

I was advised by Sony Tech Support, to install 1.0d to my drive, and to be aware of further firmware developments shortly.

Within 2 days firmware 1.0g was released, so I installed it, and this had the same effect as 1.0f in burning Ritek 4x at 2x.

Is there anyone out there who has worked out what can be causing these problems?? This problem seems to be PC specific in my opinion...

I think the issues of the Sony DRU500A burning ritek G04 at 2x could be related to the drive itself... my 500A that wouldn't burn at 4x on 1.0f or g, packed in totally on the 9th March, I sent it back to Avery Berkel the service agents for Sony.

Last Sunday (16th March) I bought a Sony DRU500AX firmware 2.0c and fitted it in place of the 500A that i returned... and guess what... it burned 4x riteks at 4x and 2x riteks at 2x, as it should...

So my guessing is there are some dodgy 500A drives out there that won't work at 4x with ritek 4x dvd's on 1.0f/g firmwares.

I burnt about 10 ritek 4x dvd-r last night at 4X after flashing my new dru500ax (was on 2.0c then newest one 2.0e still at 2X burning speed) to old firmware 1.0d it burns at 4X. So I'm happy now. Get it from sonydru500a.com

I was also able to burn 4x riteks at 4x with my 500A, using the newest firmware.
