Uncompressing DivX

Hi guys,

I just download a movie which IMHO has been compressed to much and the quality is less than average from a original DVD source!Too much obvious compression artifacts can be seen and blur!

Well..what I would like to do is to uncompress the movie so that I could at least get back near to original DVD quality. I have tried virtual dub..using full processing mode (uncompress RGB) HOwever..the result is what u see is what u get from the divX!

My question is how can I uncompress the movie and get the quality near to the DVD source(100% is not possible) how about 80%?

If I can do that...then I would like to convert it to other format perhaps!

Do anyone has any experience with this?

DivX is a lossy codec, which means it throws away information during the encoding process. Once gone information can't be retrieved by any means.

Yet another reason not to download movies from other people (aside from the legal issue). I've never seen a movie downloaded that looks or sounds better than any of my rips; these, of course, are from friends who don't care to encode movies, just steal them.

Really, most content downloaded from the internet has no quality standard. People who make those rips are most probably newbies, that think they have done an outstanding job and are proud to share it ¬.¬
It's like, always the people who share things are the unexperienced ones, and people who have the know-how don't share anything, kinda ironic huh? ;)

But anime fans are lucky enough, as most anime fansubs are correctly encoded :D

BTW, I could sing a song about badly encoded commercial DVDs ¬.¬

i think u could mean u would like to do some image reconstruction such as: smoothning, can we have some samples of the movie so we can assist you further:)

removing blocking=adding noise (and up with the bitrate
...usually for quality i crank up the bitrate....
if i save 1 cd i'll destroy good deal
of image information...yeap,i do 2cd rips every time)
removing noise=smoothers
sharpening?rather use it on viewing (ffdshow)
bigger res and sharpening don't go hand to
hand (from my experience on hires divx...
for me hires is anything bigger than 576x432....anything
lower would be "mid" to low res...)

if i can make web video look better,anything is possible....
(experince in tv capping comes handy here....tv or vhs is always
noisy and needs some filtering)

The fact is that the "scene" only uses divx 3.11 and xvid. Why ? Because everyone hates divx 5.x and the reason why they develop it, $$$. XviD is good tough and you get good results. But theres competition so you just have to get a way to encode the movies fast and easy. No time for filtering or anything fancy... And a reason to download them would be, hmm you get them earlier, and you don't have to buy/rent. (Earlier if you live in Europe, sometimes even in the us if they release dvd screeners or predvd...)
