I have a Pioneer A03 which is region 2 and running v2.0 firmware. I have tried to flash the drive with the firmware which is avaliable over the net but I think this has to be done through a dos boot disc as it does not work through Windows XP. My question is, there is an official flash to downgrade to v1.68, there is also a firmware flash for v1.68 to make my drive region free and allow 2 speed burning with all media. I would like feedback from anyone who has downgraded from a region 2 drive with v2.0 firmware to v1.68 region free with 2 speed burning, how easy is it and were there any problems.
Thanks
Coach.

Official downgrade? No, but you can find most of the answers you seek here:

For more info about firmware, check here

Also you may need to force the upgrade. This information is about the A04 but should work the same for the A03:

Remember, flashing your firmware, especially with unofficial firmware can be dangerous and you do so at your own risk. Make sure you do not interrupt power during the flash. You could end up with a nice expensive paper weight.
All that being said, I did it to mine and it works using the v2.00 (RPC-1 + 2x for all)Enable any media to burn @ 2x on DVR-A03/103 patch.

I haven't read the links yet, how did you do flash yours. I have tried mine and it says that it is already v2.0 did you use a dos boot disc or some other way?
Thanks
