Weird problem in RecordNOW Max!

Hi Folks

I'm a first-time poster so please be gentle. OK, had a search of this forum and others and I can't find anyone with the same problem...

I have a Pioneer A04. Firmware is upgraded to 1.40 (2xRitek version). I have some white label Datawrite DVD-R GEN4 (V2) media. I think they're 2x. The problem I am having seems to be the reverse of what most people want! I am trying to burn these at 1x. I select this specifically in RecordNOW Max (4.50) and it happily starts off burning and shows around 62 minutes for recording of the DVD. Then after about two minutes it suddenly drops to around 28 minutes. It's as if it suddenly starts burning at 2x after starting on 1x! Now the last one I tried actually played fine on the standalone DVD player so not so much of a problem in wasting media but I'd really like these to burn at 1x when I select it! I couldn understand the other way round (selecting 2x but burning 1x). ANyone have any ideas on why/how this is happening?! Tried about 3 and all the same. I have some Traxdata and unbranded Ritek and they seem to work at either 2x or 1x all the way through, depending on what I select.

It's got me stumped! :)

I have the same problem with Stomp RN 4.5, although for the first few secs the completion time is 13 mins, based on 4x speed (burner is only 2x of course though).

My firmware is older (can't remember version, it's shipped firmware though and so is completely legit).

And I am using verbatims :)

Hmmmm... just tried recording onto a Traxdata and I get the same thing happening! I'm sure I was able to record at 1x previously with these discs! Does the new 1.40 2xRitek firmware force 2x on Ritek G03 media? It seems to be the Initialization stage where it reports as recording at 1x but then once recording proper starts it's time jumps as if at 2x (and it does only take around half an hour for a full DVD - 4.7gig). Can anyone confirm the Ritek hacked firmware does force 2x in RecordNow MAX (4.5)?

I'd think that rules out hacked firmware being the issue, that's why I mentioned it :)

I've got the same problem. LG GMA-4020B and princo 1x! Yes, it's correct - 1x. I think RN choose fastest burning method. GMA-4020B burns everything on 2x but with Nero I can choose. With RN - I can't.

Thing is I have been burning at 1x speed with earlier firmwares with RN. I just checked the RN Stomp website and it seems it's an issue with 4.5 but only for certain people (maybe operating system?) - one of the forum's adminstartor's has submitted the 'bug' to manufacturer's but as yet there has been no fix from what I can see. I've upgraded to the latest version of Nero (although from what I've read that isn't perfect - yet! - either)...
