SmartRipper Legal or Illegal?

Does anyone know what the laws are on this at the moment? Is SmartRipper legal or Illegal to use/distribute? Please can someone let me know this is very important. I would love to read articles or receive links to in depth information as well as the legal standpoint at this time. Thanks guys for helping.

I think it's illegal, because it uses DeCSS, witch is illegal.

Technically, it's not illegal. You have the right to back up your own stuff or whatsoever, but not give away or sell that back-up version. However, DeCSS is in the way of backing up process so it's needed to be taken out :rolleyes:

Now, this situation depends on each country. Some countries allow this action, some don't, and some not even has this kind of action described clearly whether it's right or wrong.

Human beings tend find a scapegoat whenever they can't prove a person, who they want to be proven wrong, is wrong. A software couldn't recognise which action is right or wrong. It's people, who use it.
