Which is the best MPEG4 playback codec?

Hi everybody. My question is simple:


There is fffdshow, DivX 5.x, mpegable's AVI codec and Xvid. Which one is the fastest/best for playback? Does anybody of you compared them?

ffdshow is a good playback filter in my opinoin (can be used to playback xvid and divx).

3ivX also does a fine job in decoding mpeg4 video and aac audio.

Same frame, decoded by both 3ivx and lavc. 3ivx decodes it incorrectly. Source is xvid with b-frames.

@mf: maybe if you send a little testfile to the 3ivX guys, they might fix that :)

1) They claim to be better than xvid and divx
2) They claim to be able to decode it all
3) They make a silly directshow filter that creates more problems than it fixes (it fixes none and creates quite some)

Why would I send a testfile if they could test it with xvid themselves ? The source is there, the binaries are there, just test a little before you start claiming you can decode any mpeg4 file.

1st works fine for me, but I don't use bframes, just wanted to help

2nd Don't know what the 3ivx guys did to you,... you seem kind of pissed off,... and reading your post I'm kind of happy that most other people don't have that kind of attitute towards reporting bugs.

But, what do I care ? :D
just wanted to help to speed up developement of another free tool,...

I know DivX, Xvid, 3ivx, and ffdshow, for me the last one is the best, giving me a picture as good as DivX on highest post-processing with only a quarter of CPU--load!

BUt what's lavc??

3ivx guys have a history of moronic things since they emerged a while after DivX3.11a came out. They used to have this thing that was supposedly much better which you had to pay for. But of course it wasn't better at all.
