using DVD2SVCD to create SVCDs from DVDquality MPGs ?

Hi Folks,
though i searched through the foren i didnt find anything really matching my question,
though it does sound pretty simple.

i do like the way DVD2SVCD enables you to choose the size of the output, and enables you to put a DVD onto 2 or 3 or 4 CDs of whatever size

what i am looking for is a way to use this tool to take MPG files, i got from recording TV over a PCTV SAT card onto harddisk.
this is, for about 45 minutes of TV , i got an MPG file of about 1.7GB size, and i'd love
to put this on a single CD as SVCD.

how can i get DVD2SVCD to read .mpg files instead of the .ifo structure form DVDs ?

I really want to warn you that concert video and/or camcorder material doesn't encode well at SVCD bitrates. Don't be surprised if it doesn't come out that good. The camera motion causes mpeg problems.

I use this method...

Load the mpg into Virtualdub and save as an avi (with filters as necessary). Then, in dvd2svcd, under the misc. tab, change the input type to avi. Load your vdub avi file and process.

thanx ,

just a remark, its not material from a videocam, but from TV Streams ,
recorded to the harddisk from a pctvsat satellite card, so motion of the camera shouldnt be a prob .

It doesn't matter that it is from TV concerts have a ton of camera movement typically and that is problematic.

You should be able to use PVA2SVCD (see the misc. tab)

I guess what I should be asking for is a SVCD2SVCD. The files I am working with are either predone SVCD or mpg2 (not pva). The reason i want to use dvd2svcd is that my dvd player is picky about bit rates and I have to use the vcd header trick. THus far DVD2SVCD is the only way I have had any suceess with an mpeg2 file on my dvd player. Besides DVD2svcd is just way to great of a program not to use.
Any thoughts or insight would be most welcome'

BTW I have converted a vob to svcd so I know the process works in my situation.

Why don't you just do as I suggest :confused: PVA does support mpg files as well. So by selecting PVA in the misc tab you can convert a mpeg file to svcd!

When I use pva file in dvd2svcd the "C:\Program Files\pva\pvastrumento 2.0.30\cmdshell\cPVAS.exe" replies with an illegal stream error. I am using the inncorrect version?>

I am using 1.1.3 build 2 of dvd2svcd.

Don't rename the mpg to pva, then cPVAS will fail. Besides the latest version I tried which worked was PVAStrumento 2.0.23a.

same here with version 2.0.30

ver 2.1 RC 5 gives no message though, it simply hangs (i assume it hangs, it worked for more than 5 minutes on a 20 seconds mpg so i closed it)

any ideas? :confused:

Same thing here... pav hangs the application at 'analyzing program stream'.

I just downloaded and installed the newest version yesterday, and pointed DVD2SVCD to the cmd line app.

Yes, I'm afraid it happens with that version as well
I tried remuxing with all the headers tmpg has and with some headers instead of getting that error, D2S LOG just said "pvastrumento failed to execute". PVA_log was blank.
