i have encoded many dvd's using dvd2svcd with the pbc set to the default of use selections. i have two dvd players.. 1 is an apex ad 1500 ,, I normally have to set it to pbc off to play them. the 2nd is a pioneer dv 340 and i cant get them to play at all..it says pbc on and i cant find in the manual how to disable it. ive checked the settings faq for dvd2svcd but it didnt quite clear up the issue for me.. I understand from it that if i select pbc type to no pbc these probs should go away. I intend to do so but any advice or info as to why these probs occur would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Usually if you start the SVCD by hitting the 1 button instead of play it will shut PBC off.

thanks markrb ,,i had read that in a search forum somewhere but it didnt work for my player. i had no idea that of all the things that need to be just so for svcd compliance that CHAPTERS would be a hang up!!!
is the easy fix for most players compliancejust to set pcb type to none?

Players like yours seem to be in the minority. Most don't seem to have any problems with it.
In your case it sounds like you will need to create the SVCD to work with your player.
I own 3 players, one of them a Pioneer, and I have no issues with any of them. I have also played my SVCD's in my friends player, which is different from mine, and that has no problems either.
Sorry I don't have a real fix for your problem.

strange.. i tried encoding with no pbc and it still didnt work on the pioneer, however it did remove chapter selections when played on my apex.
i tried a movie that was encoded by someone else and it played fine on the pioneer and no chapters on my apex. How can this be so??? are my svcd s that im encoding non compliant? i have the warn me if the bit rate exceeds 2756 checked. extremely confused (and dazed)

went today and picked up a jvc xv s300 and ....... same thing says pbc on and wont play the cds....except the afformentioned ones i got from a buddy....crap!!
could it be how i am dealing with my bin and cue ' s? i am using the clone cd virtual drive to mount them and clone cd to 1 to 1 copy on the fly as a "data" cd

Don't give to much thought into the Apex as they are by far the most forgiving player out there. So if your SVCD is not compliant it very well might still play it.
Might as well post your log from a conversion that you want in a best case. So I guess that will mean with chapters. Use cut and paste don't attach.
Have you tried using another program like Nero or CDRWIN to burn the mounted image or just the CUE/BIN files?

i have used nero to burn the bin and cue but it created nothing but coasters with noise about 7/8 of the way through each disk. after that i started mounting the bin and cues to virtual drive then copy as above. i am trying different settings in clone cd for the one to one copy to see if that wil make any difference. at any rate thanks for the reply , i dont (idiot) have a log file for one of the dvds i converted but here is the info file from one

tested my svcd's on a sony dvp ns 715p. they didnt work!!!!!!!
have just tried another method of burning doogggg's method ,, mount with daemon tools and one to one. they play on all players listed above. moral of the story is that through process of elimination,,,,, the clone cd virtual drive is to blame. the daemon tools virtual drive with clone cd as the one to one burner works fine. ELBY FIX YOUR VIRTUAL DRIVE!!!! thanks for the replys markrb,, i hope this painful lesson will help others somewhere.. i am now the proud owner of 200 cd coasters:mad:
