View Full Version : Jerky picture with PC or stand alone DVD player, but the mounted cue file plays fine

Hello, I'm Matt first time post

I ripped and encoded a DVD and everything went fine. When I burn the Image to a CD and play it with Power DVD on my Computer or put it in a stand alone player, the picture is sort of lagging behind. The DVD drive or player cannot seem to keep up. I mounted the cue file with Daemon and it plays fine with Power DVD that way. I read some other posts and (I'm not sure) but I think it could be the field order, but I'm using DVD2SVCD ver 1.1.2 build 1 and I have that set to automatic.

I'm sure this is something simple I'm overlooking and I would appreciate any help anyone would give me.

o yea and here is the log file if it helps...

Great first post we need more like you around here.

I can't see anything obvious in that log so I have a few questions that might help.

Did you rip the DVD with DVD2SVCD? That is the only officially supported way to rip the DVD as other rippers can cause issues.

Are you doing Mpeg-1 or Mpeg-2 video?

What are the settings on the bottom of your bitrate tab?

If you want to check field order get Bitrate viewer. When you load the VOB it will have a section that says Upper Field first. If that is Yes then you want to set it to Top Field First. If it says No then the opposite is true.

Try buring the CD at the slowest your burner will burn or 4X whichever is greater. This doesn't sound like the problem, but you never know.

I ripped with DVD2SVCD using the Internal Routines, I now usually use vstrip via DVD2SVCD.

I'm using Mpeg-2 video.

at the bottom of the bitrate i have:
Max 2530 min 300 (an unchecked box) Min average 1600 and max avg 2230
and I do have the warn if the bitrate gets above 2756.(which is probably what you meant from what I read on the other threads)

And the last thing is where can I get a bitrate viewer? I looked at doom9.org, but I didn't find one there. I'm asking cause I can't seem to find one.

Thanks for the fast reply :)

With the info you gave me I am still a little stumped at this point.

Might as well try swapping the field order if burning slower doesn't help.

Ok, I'll try that tonight. Thanks again.

I tried 2 things, first I burned the images I had at the lowest speed, which is x8 on my x40 burner. And the second is i recompressed the vobs again using the upper field first option. Both play fine when I mount the images or play them in my DVD drive on my computer. But if I play them in a stand alone player, the picture is still shaky. But less then it was before.

I was told it's because the read speed on my drive can handle the SVCD but the stand alone player I tried it in has a lower read speed.

Have you looked your DVD player up at www.vcdhelp.com to see if it really supports SVCD's or if there are any known issues? Make sure to read the comments as well since some people will say it works, but it really doesn't

Well I didn't fix the problem. It's cause my DVD drive seems to be broken. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. So that will put a halt on my projects...

But thank you for your help.

sometimes the jerky problem happened to me too.
try to set in the bbmpeg advanced settings
timestamps I frame (only)

then remux audio+video

i don't know exactly what timestamps are but with some my conversion
i've get jerky video while audio plays fine, it seem that jerkys appears after a scene with rapid motion

try and let me know
