I just maid a backup of "The Sum Of All Fears". The movie is
around 8gb and there are alot of subtitles taking up about 350 mb and I will just keep the swedish to save some space for the
main movie, but I know it wont work if I just keep the swedish subtitel. Can I come around this problem in some way or
do I have do keep all the subtitles if I wont the swedish to to work?

Wow that's a lot of subs...I thought they were only around 2 to 4MB for each language for subtitles. How do you know it won't work if you only keep one sub? Only thing I've heard is it doesn't remap it.
1]english
2)french
3)german
4)spanish
say you only keep 1 and 3
so english is english 1st sub
and french (in menu) is german 2nd sub
Just click subtitle button on your remote to flip through them and wait 2 or 3 seconds to hear which one is which..no biggie.

LOL, speaking subtitles :D
you can remap the subs so it even works with the menu if you are keeping the menu that is
but it's probably better not to do that as you will have to flick thru all the dummy subs to get to the swedish ones while playing

Hmmm I just kept the swedish subtitle and played the movie in power dvd. When I choose show swedish subs nothing happens! No subs show up,why? If I then rip all subs they play fine in power dvd!
And mrbass I also think subs is only 2-4mb, but according to Instant copy they take up 30 mb each.

how are you selecting subs?
they wont work in the main menu as they will need remapping
but pressing the subs button while playing the movie should work, give it a few seconds to display something when people are talking as the dont show straight away
chances are the swedish subs will be the top choice in the menu selection which will probably be english
they should be there

No it dosen't work just keping the swedish sub. I play the movie in Power DVD and english is selected in audio field and swedish in the sub field. But the subtitles won't show up and thats very strange.
So what can I doing wrong??

are you selecting swedish subs to show?
the swedish subs are not there anymore, they will be in the 1st subs stream, which is normally english, so keep pressing the subs button on the remote until you get the original subs stream no. 1
if not you can manually change them to show by using ifoedit
you can email me the 2 IFO's and I can do it for you if you want and email them back

they need remapping then
do you know how to do it?
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46983
the same theory applies to subs also, open the original IFO and the authored IFO in different IFO editors and click "VTSI_MAT" in top indow then look in bottom window at line Number of sub-picture streams in VTSTT_VOBS. Make a note of how many sub-picture streams there are in original and enter same amount into authoured
underneath the amount of streams you can see all the streams and what language they are, in the original IFO find which stream you kept and double click the SUb-p_01: Sub-picture stream line and also same one in authored IFO. A window will open and select same in authored as original making a note of the ones you change but also the ones you deleleted
then click "VTS_PGCITI" in top window of both IFO's, and then relevant PGC
from the numbers you wrote down in 1st step for streams kept goto the Sub-picture stream status for that no. in both IFO's and enter the amount from the same Sub-picture stream number if it's different, the other 4 no's willl change when u click another choice in the top window of ifoedit. If the authored contains a no. but you deleted it from the original then just enter 0 to delete it

Thanks for your offering, but this subtitle problems isn't just in this movie it's the same in every movie. If I keep all subs they work fine. If I select the subs first in the list in Instant copy it works, but if I just select the second, third or so it wont show up in the movie. I realy don't get this....(

Oki I have to check out the remapping thing, but I still think it's strange that I should have to remapping every movie to get the subs to work. It do work for you and you don't do remapping do you?

the problem is IC doesnt remap the audio and subs streams but with a little editing it can be fixed
any audio or subs streams you remove before the one you want upset the mapping of streams and as English is normally stream 1 it wont affect many users
if you email me the orginal IFO and the resulting IFO I can change it for you so they play no matter what subs you choose
it's easy to do, but hard top understand at 1st
I posted a question about remapping the audio streams in Simpsons but found the answer at Trilight Guides and used the same method to change the subs also
it's easy once you know how :)

Well I currently usig ISO mode then I have to change to file mode if I want to do this remapping thing and I guees I can change to file mode or I just keep all the subs as they are.
But then I have another question. If the subs just take 2-4mb it wont be any problems to keep them all. But why are Instant keep telling me they take 30 mb each?
MackemX

thinking about it, if you rip originally in file mode you could actually change the subs so Swedish is the default before using IC , then choose english and it should keep the swedish
interesting, may just give it a try as this will help the people who dont want the streams
the other longer way to do it (probably better and easier) is use filemode again then use IFOedit and strip the subs but leave the swedish and this will do it all for you, also strip the audio you don't want at the same time
take about 10 mins processing but this will fix all the mapping for you
then when you run IC just select all the subs and audio available for that title
this works as I used it for the Godfather so all you will see in IC for the subs will be the swedish ones, nothing else and only the audio you kept too

Oki thanks for your advice I will make some testing now.
In "the sum of all fears" the movie I backup right now, english isn't default/first in the list, it's actually in the bottom of the Instant subtitel list and arabic is first in the list. I guess I should choose arabic then, right?
MackemX
7th March 2003, 01:15
yes, worth a try if you select arabic using the subs menu, but it all depends what changes IC has done to the mapping, maybe its kept the mapping but changed the amount of substreams to one, so it wont show as it's playing stream one whoch has been stripped
basically all depends what info is in the ifo
but I reckon in the future it's better for you to strip the subs you don't want using Ifoedit before using IC. You may aswell do the audio also so then IC cannot mess up at all
do this until IC get it sorted, that's if they ever do :(
