I have a couple of PAL formats that I wish to backup to NTSC. Can I do either with DVD2One or IC? Any help would be most appreciated.

thanks.

Never mind, found it.

No, that would not be a backup, would it. First you will have to convert the format, then author your own DVD.

Sorry, it would be a backup. I bought them and the seller didn't inform me that they were PAL. They will not play on my Pioneer or 53" Sony. So either I back them up to a format that I can view, or I am SOOL. And no, I can't return them.

Could you point me in the correct direction for how to format it?

thanks.

mpucoder is actually right. Technically it isn't a "backup" when you are changing the format. Not only do you have to scale the video and adjust the frame rate, but if you want the entire DVD contents (menus and such), you will have to re-author the whole DVD.

Anyway, for the standards conversion part, take a look at my Standards Conversion page (http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/index.html) and see if that helps. I don't have info up for DVD Film conversion yet, but if your DVD is just video, the conversion is there, and the technique is quite good (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45459&pagenumber=2#post266566) :) (even if the guide is under construction).

Wow, that is what I have been looking for. Very cool.

My only question would be: if the movie is anamorphic, do I need to change any settings during the conversion to ensure that it stays anamorphic????

On the "not so cheap" option you can download DVPALNTSC from DVUnlimited http://www.dvunlimited.com ($98)

@rpboy My only question would be: if the movie is anamorphic, do I need to change any settings during the conversion to ensure that it stays anamorphic????You know...anamorphic conversions are consipicuous by their absence from my page...an unfortunate oversight.

I do think that you have to ensure that TMPGEnc does not scale the image. Since the DVD->DVD conversions dealt with video only, I haven't done much anamorphic conversion. However, I think if you ensure that the input and output formats match, the video will not be scaled. So in the "Video" tab of the "Setting" dialog, set the "Aspect Ratio:" to "16:9 Display," and in the "Advanced" tab, set the "Source aspect ratio:" to "16:9 Display." I believe it's also important that your DVD authoring software deal correctly with 16:9 images.

Xesdeeni's technique takes a bit of time to set up properly, but the quality level annihilates any other software solution you would care to mention.

I've had incredible results using NTSC to PAL, although I've only tinkered with PAL to NTSC so far, and haven't managed to do very well with that.
