I am wondering what option most of you use.

Sometimes bilinear, sometimes neutral bicubic, depending on the source and the targeted resolution and/or size. Voted bilinear though, 'cause I use it more often (saturation / high bitrate audio freak :D)

What is with all these polls? I mean honestly, there is no best resize it depends on what task you want to do. If I do a really high quality rip I might use lanzcos for a very high quality rip, like for example I did LOTR onto 3cds a while ago. But usually I use a neutral bicubic for most encodes. But, then say if I were to do a SVCD or something like that I may use bilinear if resizing in one direction. You may need to rethink the question in your poll, ie what resize is best for a certain task, otherwise you will not get a clear response because clearly different resizes are better for different tasks. For example, in most cases I would be an idiot to use a lanzcos resize to 640x whatever for a 120min encode onto on 700MB cd, it would look bad, another resize would do much better.

If you would have taken the time to read you would see that this isn't asking which one is the best. It's asking which one you use most.

Sorry, neutral bicubic for me. :)

I'm surprised so many people seem to be using sharp bicubic. I thought the general opinion was that lanczos replaces sharp bicubic if you want the "sharpest" picture at best possible quality.

Personally I usually choose between soft bicubic, neutral bicubic and lanczos.

it is the speed, lanczos is just plain slow compared to bicubic

I have noticed a slight difference in speed, but not more than 5-8% or something. Personally I don't doubt about using it at that cost.

how much of a compression differance is there really between sharp bicubic and lanczos?

I use lanczos whenever I can, if I need more compressibility I'll drop down to neutral bicubic. Usually I use bilinear for ppc encodes but I'm gonna try soft bicubic.

from my experiences lanczos can help smooth jagged edges in reduction of size but also keep details more.
bucubic compresses better since its more blocky than lanczos, which codecs compress better

I never used sharp bicubic because imo it just introduced more artefacts into the picture and otherwise looked very similar to neutral bicubic.
Lanczos is better in that respect - it is sharper than neutral bicubic, the colors are better and it doesn't introduce as much artefacts as sharp bicubic. I also think it compresses better than sharp bicubic (I'm not sure though).
About the speed: I'm using C3D anyways (mostly), so the difference between Lanczos and Bicubic is null ;)

I'm suprised at the polls so far. I didn't think lanc would be that popular. Hmmmm I'm going to have to give it a shot.

You should take in account it`s fancy name, too.
Bilinear and bicubic are a bit dull, aren`t they?
:)

lol yea I guess they are.

Any Anime masters want to tell me what gives you the best results?

actually, I don't use DiVX5, and my answer is true only if you consider what I definitely plan to use in the future (Neutral Bicubic) ^^

I began with Sharp Bicubic, and sticked to it for a looooong time
then I discovered LanczosResize
then I realised BicublinResize(.,.,0.5,0.5) did a great job ;)
