Disabling a Chapter Selection Menu Residing in a Multi-Cell VOBid After DVD-Splitting Guide

Here’s the scenario, you did a DVD-split according to your chapter layout in your Chapter Selection menus. You need to have selected your new split point according to the lowest chapter on each page. So if your Chapter selection menu/page 4 had chapters 7 and 8 for selections, then you had to have selected your split at Chapter 7’s first cell when you did it in VOB extras in IFOedit.

This guide will only work for you if you did it this way. This is my way I’ve stragetically selected my split point. This guide is only for chapter pages(cells) that reside in VOB-ID.

Here’s an example layout of your movie’s menu IFO. I have provided you with a description of what each Menu contains by previewing in IFOedit. DVD2AVI and Vobrator may be used as an alternative if you can’t preview in IFOedit.

This section below is located in your IFO’s VTS Overview/Menu Language Unit.

Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 1: [Root-Menu] (entry PGC) (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 2: [Sub-picture Menu] (entry PGC) (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 3: [Audio Menu] (entry PGC) (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 4: [Chapter (PTT) Menu] (entry PGC) (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 5: [entry only] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1) Main Menu
Menu 6: [entry only] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 2) Subtitle Menu
Menu 7: [entry only] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 3) Audio Menu
Menu 8: [entry only] (Programs: 5) (Cells: 5) (uses VOB-IDs: 4) Chapter Selection Menus
Menu 9: [entry only] (Programs: 19) (Cells: 19) (uses VOB-IDs: 5) Special Feature menu and submenus
As you can see in the highlighted red Menu 8 above, your Chapters are residing in 5 cells or or 5 Programs or, I like to refer to them, 5 pages. Here’s an example layout of how your chapters are laid out in the pages. There are 2 chapter selections per page.

Cell 1 / Page 1 > 1,2
Cell 2 / Page 2 > 3,4
Cell 3 / Page 3 > 5,6
Cell 4 / Page 4 > 7,8
Cell 5 / Page 5 > 9,10
Now you did a DVD-split on your movie and you have chapters 1 to 6 on Disk 1 and chapters 7 to 10 on Disk 2. If you have kept your menus, chapters 7 to 10 on your first disk and chapters 1 to 6 on your second, they don’t work properly anymore as the chapters do not exist on corresponding disks. We need to disable or bypass them so that you do not have the option to select them. Let’s work on disk 1 first.

On your first disk, our chapter menus are located in Menu 8 (See above layout of Menus). Now, go to your movie’s IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / VTS_PGC_8 / PGC Program Map. You should see 5 Programs corresponding to your 5 cells. We know that our menu selections for chapters 7 to 10 reside in Cell 4 and 5. Since we just want only Chapters pages 1 to 3 available for display, edit Program 4 and 5 as follows.

Original PGC Program Map:

Program_1: Entry cell number 1 [01] Chapters 1 and 2
Program_2: Entry cell number 2 [02] Chapters 3 and 4
Program_3: Entry cell number 3 [03] Chapters 5 and 6
Program_4: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 7 and 8
Program_5: Entry cell number 5 [05] Chapters 9 and 10
_______________________________________________________
New PGC Program Map:

Program_1: Entry cell number 1 [01] Chapters 1 and 2
Program_2: Entry cell number 2 [02] Chapters 3 and 4
Program_3: Entry cell number 3 [03] Chapters 5 and 6
Program_4: Entry cell number 3 [03] Chapters 7 and 8 Page 4 bypassed
Program_5: Entry cell number 3 [03] Chapters 9 and 10 Page 5 bypassed

Save your IFO and preview to test your edited Chapter Menu Selection. You shouldn’t see your unwanted pages anymore.

Doing the same procedure for disk 2. Edit the following to disable/bypass chapter selections 1 to 6 as follows.

Original PGC Program Map:

Program_1: Entry cell number 1 [01] Chapters 1 and 2
Program_2: Entry cell number 2 [02] Chapters 3 and 4
Program_3: Entry cell number 3 [03] Chapters 5 and 6
Program_4: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 7 and 8
Program_5: Entry cell number 5 [05] Chapters 9 and 10
_______________________________________________________
New PGC Program Map:

Program_1: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 1 and 2 Page 1 bypassed
Program_2: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 3 and 4 Page 2 bypassed
Program_3: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 5 and 6 Page 3 bypassed
Program_4: Entry cell number 4 [04] Chapters 7 and 8
Program_5: Entry cell number 5 [05] Chapters 9 and 10

Save and your IFO and preview to test. So when you go your Chapter Selection Menu, you should be presented with your page 4 as your first page. That’s all there is to it for disabling your chapter pages if you did a DVD-split according to the layout of your Chapter Slection Menu.
