Hmmm...if you're operating any file larger than 4GB, then you need to run on NTFS partition, not FAT32 partition, because it cannot handle file larger than 4GB.
Simple is that? ;)
Oh...BTW you can try to split that big file into smaller files, for instance, 1GB x 4.

mmmm, i dont think you understand my problem
when i start the first encoding phase in nandub, than i shouldnt get any output at all, the only thing that happens in the first pass is the making of a stats file, which is used in the second phase. The problem is that the program calculates the expected file size in the first phase, but due to no bitrate calculation yet (this happens before the second phase), the expected file size swings out to more than 4 gig, and i should get a hold of that problem, because i ripped several dvds before, and never had this shitty problem.

Try reinstalling DivX 3.11a.
Better yet, reinstall the GordianKnot package. It has been covered before. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17072&highlight=nandub+filesize) (Search, hint, hint;) )

Mmmm, i dont use gordianknot, i use all the programs seperately
the problem is that my computer thinks that in the first encoding step there must be a video output (it doesnt generate it actually). When the estimated file size reaches 4gb, i get a fatal error.
I think it is probably a setting which makes my computer think that there is a video output (though no encoding settings are set yet in the first pass)
Anyone any ideas...
SORRY - PROBLEM SOLVED
THX YOU WHERE RIGHT, I HAD PROBS WITH DIVX 3 CODEC
