now i used this method twice before and it worked fine.
1)ive got a dvd of 5.5gig
2)i tend to use the figures in the brackets not the slider am i wrong?
3)the predicted size after transcoding all the menus and extras is say 300mb
4)the main title is 3.4 gig or so,so i move it up to 4gig (in the brackets)to get a total of 4.3gig
5)now this normally works obviously it varies between the size of the extras, but i ended up with a 3.9gig total wtf!!!!.so what am i doing wrong.p.s i tend to keep all the audio ie dd dts.
thanks for input in advance.

ignore the figures in the bracket. This is the video + audio/subs
the audio selected is not affected by the % setting as it's the same going in as it is coming out
it's the figures outside the brackets you wanna be interested in
best way to do it:
1)set the sliders for the menu/extras to your preferred level (60% is good for menu and 50% is acceptable if need be for extras)
2)Slide movie Title % so that the predicted size is a green 4.32Gb
3)Now keep on sliding Movie % bar up until it reaches 4.64-4.67Gb in filesize (the risk is yours)
4)Press F5 and set it away

4.6 that is what people want to hear....I've been doing around 4.5 and been getting 4.14GB so I'm gonna do 4.6 and see if I can consistently hit target..

I have had to use settings from as low as 4.58Gb, and as much as 4.76Gb to end up with a DVD within 4.34-4.37Gb
the range of accuracy regarding predicted filesize when compared to actual ranges on average anywhere for say 90% upto 95% on average for a DVD
It all depends on DVD really, what extras you include as each Title reacts differently
I record each Title, what size original was, what I set % too & predicted filesize and lastly actual size after processing. This is how I have seen the range of results
I do not include audio with as this is a constant throughout and will not affect results regarding actual video reduction when compared to original
I record my results using this spreadsheet HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/recorder.xls), to help with my calculations when the filesize is either to large or too small and either 1 Title or all need processing again and usually end up with 4.34-4.37Gb

thanks for your replies i did use the 4.5 to 4.6 method at first and it worked great but one i did turned out far higher so i adopted the other method which worked until now,so i guess its just luck with some movies however i did notice the guide you posted (misterx)so if its slightly bigger i can easily trim off a bit and a bit there.

i understand that the audio/subs are left alone but i was just wandering(to put my mind at rest)say if i have just the movie no titles etc why not use the figures in the brackets to adjust it to the max size available,so the transcoded video+audio add upto 4.3gig ish im only asking so i can understand how it works.
