Making backup of my dvd sometime i encurred in "saturation" , especially with the latest optimal release.
I explain myself: film as panic room or lilo&stich can be easily reduced in one cd with good relative quality, but as far as i know, if i don't use b-frames the backup could be bigger in size and better in quality.
The codec at the end of the first pass knows how big could be the movie, so, i am asking, would not be possible to speak about "adaptive quantization"?
If Intra-Frames are at quant 2, and P-Frames too, the codec decides to lower the formulation of the b frames (from 3-150-100, to 3-125-100, or also denying them) to achive the intentional final dimension.
