Greetings:

Offhand, I don't know the solution to your problem, but if you don't get it solved here in Newbies, you might check out the CCE forum on the homepage. If your fix doesn't jump right out at you from the listed threads that are active, run a search in that forum. Everything concerning CCE is in there if you dig deeply enough. Good luck!

doing a search in the forum with your error message gave me a link to the following thread...
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29260&highlight=cce+encoding+failed+ICDecompressEx+failed+100

it seems that your problem is related to version 2.5... you might want to try and update to 2.62

Microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/multimed/mmmsg_50e0.asp

ICM_DECOMPRESSEX
The ICM_DECOMPRESSEX message notifies a video compression driver to decompress a frame of data directly to the screen, decompress to an upside-down DIB, or decompress images described with source and destination rectangles.

Remarks
This message is similar to ICM_DECOMPRESS except that it uses the ICDECOMPRESSEX structure to define its decompression information.

If you want the driver to decompress data directly to the screen, send the ICM_DRAW message.

The driver returns an error if this message is received before the ICM_DECOMPRESSEX_BEGIN message

It's an error in de decompression parameters. So it seems to me that CCE 2.5 doesn't know how to handle certain codecs?
Or maybe those codecs are corrupt and WMP doesn't care... ?

I'd try frameserving through AVIsynth or something like that before updating CCE. And uninstalling and reinstalling good codecs... (and if all else fails update CCE 2.50 (which has some advantages over 2.62 i believe) May save some money :)

BTW how can I link to a post? (is there another (better) way than copy and paste links in 2 Explorer windows?)

EDIT: The same MS site describes ICDecompessex as having parameters that represent coordinates for input and output rectangles for displaying(?) the image. Maybe the (-100) is the erroneous parameter and the AVI file is corrupt after all (or codec).

Have U tried any other programs to open the file?

@robz--> You might go to... User Control Panel > My vB home. There may be something of interest to you there on creating links.

You might try mounting your image in a virtual drive, then burn it. Run a search on "Foolproof Method". If this doesn't apply to your current situation, it's still a neat tool to know about.

Encoding didn't start at all??? No error messages? Or something?
And I wonder what you mean by Nero didn't recognise it...

BTW i don't think the MS Site will help in solving the problem... as it is just a technical description of decompessex

@ammck55: I find nothing about easily inserting links to posts in replies on My vbHome? I'll just use the cut and paste "method" :)

There was an error message but i did get much out of it since i got it to work with Honestech (is it any good?)
And by the way "Robz" you seem to forget i am a (relative)newbie
and your post how ever well ment didn´t make much sense to me.
I think this "community" of encoding and so on is so much to take in
(when i first saw Doom9:s download page i almost gave up)
After Nero i tried Prassi Primo dvd and it gave me correct resolutions for video cd (352*240)thats what i did wrong.
I´ve tried dvd2(s)vcd (tmpengc) to but that got into a loop at some point and filled my hd with rubbish. The big prob is that my avi file is with Ac3 sound so i dont know (i thought i knew) where to start.
Rip sound and then merge it with the already encoded video or what ?!
Im hoping it will sink in soon :o
Greetings and thanks Håkan

ok another hint
as you seem to want to do SVCD or VCD try checking out this guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm)

if i'm wrong and you rather want to backup your DVDs to DVD-R look here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm)

PS: also try reading the FAQs in the DVD2SVCD basic forum!

The error stuff on Microsoft didn't make much sense to me either :)

As for Honestech... I have never really tried it as CCE 2.50 (and occasionally TMPGEnc) works fine for me.
I have done some short test with it.. and my main finding was that it appears to be very slow... But that might just be psychology since Honestech encoder doesn't indicate any intelligeble speed or progress info (i seem to remember)

As for CCE and creating SVCD/VCD 's... start trying with an avi with the correct dimensions. Read the guides... :) Ask more :)
