What is the quality difference between these two? How is the post processing? How about the performance hit on my computer?

And (if anyone knows) why can't i play the LOTR (i ripped it in divx 5.0.3) with FFDshow?

The main difference between the two is the amount of postprecessing settings. I like the quality of ffdshow much more then the Divx decoder, because it is sharper. (I think the divx decoder does some postprocessing even if it is set at none) I haven't seen how much CPU the divx decoder takes, but ffdshow usually takes around %35 for me.

As for the LOTR problem: Do you have the latest alpha version of ffdshow? Have you tried using graphedit to play the movie? If that doesn't help, give us some more information on the rip.

With the LOTR
I ripped it using Smart Ripper and encoded it to DIVX with FlaskMPEG
1750 bitrate, slowest, radium mp3 codec

When I run it with the latest build of FFDSHOW i see lines, and i see moving lights, but i don't see any image. Its a 5.0.3 PRO rip, single pass.

Post a shot of the problem so I can see what you mean by that.

The Links don't work. Is there a waiting period first? Are the links correct?

Yah-geocities doesn't support off site linking.

Click on the link-go into your address bar and deleta and retype one of the letters

Then it will work

Can you see it ok with the divx decoder? Is that what every frame looks like or just some? To me it looks like the vobs weren't decrypted. You might try changing the bug workarounds in the misc setions of ffdshow (default at the bottom of the list)

Every single frame!

it works GREAT in DIVX-in fact @ 1750, its the best looking DIVX i've ever repped (it takes 3 Gigs, though)

I tried messing with the settings to no avial!

hmmmm ... I just tried to get ffdshow to not play my most recent divx 5.03 rip, and couldn't do it. Could you post your settings that you used in FlaskMPEG and the version that you used, and I will try to duplicate the problem with my LOTR. ;-)

I will need to know all the settings. Crop, audio format, and audio bitrate. Also I forgot to ask before I have the RC1 LOTRE, is that what you have?

I just finished converting the first disk of LOTRE with FlasKMPEG .7.8.39 and using the settings above. The file played just find with ffdshow. I think you might just want to redo the encode, or you could just watch it with the divx decoder. My recommendation would be to redo it with the dvd2avi -> avisynth -> virtualdubmod, but I know I am biased . ;-)

Just came to my mind, what is the horizontal and vertical resolution of your file? Maybe it isn't MOD(16) or something like that. I don't remember encoding in Flask, it's such a long time I switched to VirtualDub(Mod).
