Ram usage

hey guys just wondering why is it that when i do a compress check my ram drops to basicly nothing but when doing normall converting it sits around the 250-300mg mark

is there a reason why the memory just drops to nothing during comp checks

by the way i allso have 2 x 256 pc133 sticks
