hey there,

overall now I've converted just over 400 films, from dvd, avi etc, and aswell as the usual syncing problems etc pretty much all of them I've found a workaround for to get it working again. This film however, I can't seem to get the audio to convert as such.

The film is a 2cd version of Godfather part 2 in avi format dl'd from edonkey, with VBR audio.

the film itself is 3hrs and 19mins long (give or take), and I joined the 2 avis up with nandub into one, then loaded it into dvd2svcd to convert as normal.

As usual for VBR audio in a divx, dvd2svcd calls up madplay to convert the audio to wav first before encoding in Besweet. the wav file was made with no problems.

However, the encode to mp2 failed with the following message in the besweet log...

The wav file plays fine in winamp etc as a regular wav. According to nandub/vdub, the audio is at 23.976 matching the video.

I then tried to extract the audio from the 2 seperate avi's to seperate wavs, then joined them via Cool Edit, and then to process them both as the replacement to the wav file in dvd2svcd process, and as just encoding it as audio in tmpgenc which usually solves problems with unusual fps in the audios on some of these films. besweet gave the same error log, and tmpgenc went to 100% straight away leaving me with a 2kb mp2 file and wont play at all

I even tried to rewrite the entire wav file, by playing it via Winamp with nullsoft discwriter activated playing the mp2 file, but same message yet again.

HOWEVER, I tried encoding in tmpgenc both the seperate avi's audio without any sort of join of the wav or anything.....and I have 2 working fine mp2 files? Problem being that in order to finish off the plexing etc in dvd2svcd (CCE stage already completed) I need a single mp2 file, and I haven't found anything that I can use to load directly an mp2 then append another mp2 file to it and resave the file, as Cool Edit Pro doesn't support opening of them.

so I can't understand why at all this particular file wont convert when joined but will give no errors and go fine when done seperately but leave me with 2 useless mp2 files?

can someone please tell me if theres a way to join together the mp2 files so that I can bang that one back into dvd2svcd to finish off the plexing.

hope so,

thanks in advance,
Tuck

I had the same problem with "Godfather II". I downloaded two AVI's from eMule (spanish version), joined them and the same error in BeSweet. And it's not my first conversion from AVI to SVCD.

At the end I solved doing this and using this software:

- VirtualDub-mp3-freeze.exe: I used this program instead of Nandub (maybe it's the same) for joining the AVI's (you know, with Direct Stream Video and Audio option enabled). Once joined, I cut the 3-4 last seconds of the movie.
- BeSweet 1.5b18 instead of b16. For this, unzipped b18 at the same directory where you have b16 (do not delete b16 first because b18 needs some dll's from b16).
- DVD2SVCD 1.1.3.build2: in Audio options uncheck "Autodetect Azid Gain (2 passes)". In "Azid Gain offset" I put 0.5 (I tried with other values, like 2 and 1, but the final volume was so high).

And that's all.
When BeSweet ends, it crash (Windows error) but no problem. Say OK and DVD2SVCD continues with Picture Conversion. And at the end, the movie works fine.

Here it is the log from BeSweet:

heya....heh a reply after many months

thanks for that, good way on how to do it. I did get round it in the end tho, using a different method

what I did, was to let dvd2svcd do its job as usual up to point of failing at the multiplexing (no sound of course to complete it)

then I processed only the audio seperately each as normal (can't remember if I used besweet or tmpgenc..prob tmpgenc as quick and easy), so that I then had 2 seperate mp2 files.

then I joined the 2 mp2 files in tmpgenc's mpeg tools as if it was joining 2 video cd files, then demuxed from the "mpg" file tmpgenc had made to get that one mp2 file, stuck that back into the dvd2svcd folder with the correct name and resumed at the muxing and cutting sstage

heh....least someone reads my posts ;)

cheers for that one tho will def try that when get next problematic film like godfather

Hi all,

I had the same problem with Apocalypse Now (Redux) which is 3hrs+. I got over it by rather inelegantly splitting the avi back into 3 discs, but I will try the method above next time.

I wondered if BeSweet has a 2gB file size limit, the input wave was just a bit bigger.

I tried the Midnight Tboy method and it works fine.

I think it's better than mine because you can process the audio files usin Autoazid Gain (using DVD2SVCD only to extract the mp2 files and stoping it once made).
