View Full Version : Video gets much faster when spdif selected on AC3filter

I am trying to use the Spdif out to decode AC3 on my external home cinema Amp. I have done many progresses so far since I have read and applied various fixes suggested by this forum & Alex's at sourceforge.net (great).

I am now using AC3filter release 0.64b which has enabled me to select the SPDIF on the AC3 filter settings (and any other modes). AC3-D.Digital sound is actually detected & played fine by the amplifier BUT VIDEO IS PLAYED about TWO or THREE TIMES TOO FAST. So the divx gets out of synch very quickly...! Additionaly the player displays a film start at about 5' instead of 00'00"!
Sound and video are played fine & in synch in the other modes of the AC3filter (non spdif modes))

Same problem whatever :
- the three SPDIF modes of ACS filter 0.64b
- the player (Zoomplayer (2-9 & 3.0), Bs players 0.84,
Sasami)
- the settings of Divx 5-02...
- AC3/divX encoded with AVIMUX or NANDUB (364 kbytes/s)
- 50/500ms , or 75/500ms (default) or 250/500ms
settings of Avimux
- various films Avis / Codec 5-02 basic
- mmswitch unregistered (not sure how to do this)
- audio set to default waveout device

I wonder whether anybody has already faced and resolved this issue.

My config:
Athlon XP2000 on ASUS AV8X deluxe + ATI 9000 pro Gibabyte
Win98 SE with patch 269601usa.exe
In board sound Realtec ALC650, with driver 3-40 , spidf

Is it the same thing in v0.64b _release_?
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ac3filter/ac3filter_0_64b.exe?download

If it is try this thing: download Graphedit program:
http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/download/graphedit.zip

Unzip, and run it. In Graphedit: File->Render Media File->open some movie file and describe what filters are in graph and how they are connected. Maybe it is some additional filters in audio decodnig chain that causes problem.

thanks for your feedback.

- I have the same issue with 0.64B

- Graphedith shows a rather simple graph (for a movie * with one AC3 track (only)) :

*.avi=>AVIspliter=>DIVXDecoderSpliter=>AVIdecompress=>Videorenderer
=
=> AC3 Filter => Default Waveout device.

where
- DIVX decoder is 5.02 basic set to default options.
- Video render has all direct draw options selected
- AC3 Filter is 0.64 b
- Default Wawe out device is set to 48000 Hz , 192 Kbytes/sec, clock not selected

Next, try to replace AC3Filter in graph with Moonloght Odio decoda
(http://www.elecard.com/ftp/pub/OdioDec/OdioDec.zip). Is it the same in SPDIF mode?

I have downloaded the provided Moonlight Odio Dekoda & inserted in graphedit it instead of AC3 filter.

However I can not link its input (MPEG/LPCM in) and its output ("PCM output")to the "Avi splitter" output pin and to the "default wawe out" input pin ,even when changing properties of the Moonlihgt Odio decoda to SPDIF ; I get the message "These filters can not agree on connection. Verify comptability type of input pin & output pin"
(BTW I am a new to graphedit)

Ooops... Last version does not support AC3 anymore :confused:...

Try older version: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/download/mlcom.ax

I would just like to note that version 0.64b breaks DVD compatibility of AC3Filter with DVDs. When I try to play DVDs with any directshow player I get a message "DVD copy protect fail" or similar. The only to way to play DVD is to unregister the AC3Filter or give it a very low merit. It it not convenient to change merits or uninstall the filter every time I want to watch DVD and then change it back when I want to watch media files (avi, ac3, etc) so I will keep the older version (0.63) installed which works fine with DVDs.

Just my two (euro)cents!

Try Reclock, or install Windows 2000.

Per Valex's sugestion, i have tried Moonlight Odio Dekoda 1-23 (*)instead of AC3 filter. I am getting the same phenomenon as with 0-64b (DD detected by home cinema but imag" is much faster than sound when spdif is activated) !

BTW valex's attached link is directling only to one part of it.

@chrisp
Is it a small yellow clock icon at WaveOut renderer in Graphedit at normal playback time? At SPDIF playback time?

@cca

Wow! You're quick Valex! I downloaded I can confirm it works now. Thank you very much!

Clock : When I load the movie whith graphedit, the glock symbol on "direct sound device" is BLACK however Spdif or normal mode were selected on AC3 filter.
When i select "glock" on graphedit it appears yellow but the issues remains the same with the graphedit player*

*= same loss of image control with spdif mode selected.
(Same issue with 0.65b.)

Looks like a bug in drivers. Like it looses control on media clock that in order controls the video rendering speed. Try this experiment in graphedit (in analog, not spdif mode): render file, check and uncheck 'Graph->Use Clock' and play it. Is it the same symthoms?

This symptom appaers only in Spdif mode. When any analog mode is used it image and sound play fine. (strange !)
Checking or not "use clock" has also no affect.

By the way , 0.65 b seems not to permit to select Spdif mode from Graph edit/properties (stereo moded is forced)... !)

You did not understand. If you turn 'Use Clock' off before playing the file (turn it on, then off, otherwise it will be turned on automatically) video should accelerate in any case (with or without spdif). Is this effect the looks like as when you're playing in spdif mode?

chrisp

Indeed,

If the clock is turned off this way, the image is accelerated even if AC3 filter is in analog mode ! The sound (analog) is played well and at normal speed

Yes. So if it the same as when you're trying to play in SPDIF mode then I suppose that in this case drivers loose the media clock control. I.e. in normal analog mode audio driver controls the clock and video shown normally but when you switch to spdif audio driver does not control the clock anymore and video played at its maximum speed (because video renderer do not know at what position sound is playing now).

Try to find other audio drivers....
